Stop buying cheap spices in plastic jars. Go here instead! What a gem. Tamayta is so much more than a bulk spice shop and the owner is happy to tell you all about it. It's great for chefs (even amateurs), bakers, and even for finding gifts (knives, cutting boards, rolling pins, food grade essential oils). He's a seasoned knife sharpener, which is the meat and potatoes of the business, but he saw a need (and a niche) for bulk spices in the community as well. He also offers a variety of cooking oils and vinegar, a TON of flavoring oils (lemon, orange, etc.), he sharpens lawn mower blades and has extra blades in store. I also really liked that he had items from various people in the community (handmade cards, earrings, etc.) and they were people/neighbors he knows and loves. He talked about introducing cooking classes (adults and children). The man is passionate about this little shop and I hope to drop in regularly to replenish my spices. I believe he works full time so the shop is only open from about 4 to 7 p.m. Be sure to check the hours before you go but be sure to go...we don't have a bulk spice place in town and I'd love to see this stay put. He's also a big supporter of the community. I stopped in on a hunt to find some West African spices. He didn't have any, but was eager to learn more about what I was looking for to look into possibly making his own blend. Fingers crossed! I'd love a good, smoky jolloff rice seasoning. I was also really excited to find some kaffir lime leaves (used for Thai food) that I haven't been able to find locally before and the flavored oils, I'm so excited about those! There are so many to choose from. The prices were awesome AND the jars/labels are water resistant so you can bring it back when you need a refill. Or, bring your own jars. I love this idea and I look forward to being a patron.

Dudes got some pretty decent spices, but about half of them solidify after only a few days, rendering them virtually useless.

Tamayta has high quality spices at reasonable prices. You can pick the amount you want to buy, which makes it easier to try multiple spices. The owner helped me pick out a new spice blend to try, and I like it a lot.

Mat at Tamayta really came through. No place else could I get the souffle cups I needed. I even scoured the local restaurant supply houses near me. He had exactly what I needed and he was on top of the communication with me until the order was filled. Absolutely one of the best mail order kitchen supply places I have worked with. Thanks again Mat

This shop was recommended by a friend and I was so happy that I stopped! The variety was amazing of spices, the gadgets, the locally made products.... I can't wait to go home and try all of my new spices, oils, and balsamic dressing! This will be a regular stop for me! They also have a sharpening service.
