We stopped in this evening for burgers. Mine had jalapenos, they were fresh cut. Wow good. Also fries...were ok. Mushrooms, onion, tomatoes. Requested RARE prep. Was close to that and sure good. B had similar, without jalapeños. Also each had the additional salad bar, which was good and decent variety. We liked all.

A quick stop in Amherst for lunch at The Stockman's (or Stockmen's--as it was spelled on the wall) was a pleasant surprise both in the food and service categories. My husband declared his thick cheese dripping burger as the best burger he has had in recent memory and he is a burger loving farm boy. My patty melt was so thick I could not get it in my mouth without several cuttings. Most burgers come with seasoned fries, a few basic selections came with chips instead so my husband snitched a few of my fries to compliment his burger. Our table server was attentive, friendly, and apologetic when my first choice entre was not available because of missing ingredients (goat cheese and fig sauce). Restrooms were clean, tables were promptly cleared, and we parked at the front door. A stop on the 2022 Nebraska Passport even gifted us a drink sleeve! I can see why the passport crew selected Sportsman's as a stop this year!

We had not been to Stockman's since Covid hit. We thought tonight was a great time to go back. It was some of the best food we have eaten out in a long time. Chicken Fried Steak was obviously homemade and very good, the prime rib was done to perfection and very tasty and tender. The price for the whole meal with drinks was $55.00. We have spent twice that much and been disappointed. We will be regulars. BTW they now have nightly specials and Chicken Fried is on Wednesday!!

Stopped in to the Stockman last night after a long day at work. Have been there several times in the past. The chicken fry steak is just the best. Amazing everytime. After we were done eating met the new owner. Compliments to them as it appeared pretty seamless. Great staff, great food, great small town atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Stopped in to Stockmans for Chicken fried steak! Both my husband and I agree. It was the best we've ever tasted! Loved the atmosphere of this small town restaurant! Had the Mac Creek wine that was awfully tasting too! Really nice salad to go with dinner! Will return when going on highway 40 again!

This place is AMAZING! A great small-town treasure that has something for everyone! They have great specials every Wednesday night and wonderful prime rib served on Friday and Saturday...but get there early because it's so great that they often run out by the end of the evening. The staff is always happy and helpful! They also have daily lunch specials and their pizza is also really good!

Had been trying to verify the enthusiastic word of mouth about the Stockman's chicken fried steak for years. Finally made it, and it was certainly borne out--chicken fried steak like it used to be done, just right and served with gravy on the side without asking for it that way. (Who started the barbaric practice of smothering it in gravy before it even reached the table? Someone who likes soggy fried breading is all I can guess!). Chicken fried steak meal portion was sufficient to feed 2 normal people on the high side of 40. And the hashbrowns--again, crisp brown reminders of the good old days! And the reuben sandwich--best I've had in decades (beats "the best" in the reviews of all the eateries in Kearney); being served on dark rye (which no one else does any more)makes a lot of difference. Wonderful, friendly service--just be aware that payment is cash or check only--no cards. (Surprise--another touch of days gone by!) Try them out to reacquaint yourself with what small town restaurant dining in the Heartland used to be like!
