A decently-sized art museum that took about an hour to get through. Many of the exhibits were interesting to look at especially the exhibit transforming ordinary things/tasks into abstract pieces of art.

Absolutely love this place! I went multiple times throughout my time at the university and always had a great experience. The rotating display keeps it fresh for those in town with new exhibits on a regular basis. I adored the sculpture display they had Spring of 2022! Plus, the space is gorgeous and it's free! Also, the outside of the building and surrounding space make beautiful spots for photoshoots! Definitely worth a visit!

Every city needs a great art museum and Lincoln is fortunate to have the Sheldon. It's not very large (neither is Lincoln) but they have some wonderful and classic pieces here. The main exhibit is a rotation of their permanent artworks, which included all sorts of interesting, beautiful pieces. I would not have expected to find Maurer and Rockwell and Warhol here in Nebraska but they're here, approachable and lovely.Temporary exhibit "Table Manners: Art and Food" starts off with a quote from Anthony Bourdain "Food is everything we are. It's an extension of nationalistic feeling, ethnic feeling, your personal history, your province, your region, your tribe, your grandma. It's inseparable from those from the get-go." and is about what we eat, how we consume it and where food comes from. The Warhol soup can was neat to see and the Picasso "Study for Woman with Loaves" was unexpected. The other temporary exhibit is John Walker's "Moments of Observation" that is a series of abstract pieces that were interesting and enjoyable. While it's maybe an hour to tour the museum, it's still a great collection and I had fun. I am a fan.[Review 11390 overall, 1167 of 2019.]

Located on the campus of The University of Nebraska, the museum is relatively small when you factor out the large 2 story atrium that encompasses a 1/3 of the building. A sculpture garden with well maintained courtyards surround the structure and make it a very inviting place to stroll and appreciate beauty. I especially enjoyed the three temporary exhibits that blended well together. Michael Eastman: Havana; large opulent photos of how Cuba has froze in time; then Robert Salas: Pictures from the Revolution. Black and White photos from the late 50's and early '60's documenting the Cuban revolution. and a third curated exhibit from the permanent collection focusing on 1968 and the American resistance and rise of the sub-culture. The museum is free and a fast self tour, so no excuse not to visit if in Lincoln.

The building is pretty nice. Designed by Philip Johnson. But the permanent collection was very meh in my opinion. It's pretty limited, but on the upside, it is free. You can park a bike right across in front of the entrance. And the sculpture garden has a couple of interesting pieces. Not bad for a university.

Pretty amazing to see Hopper's "Room in New York" up close -- truly a treasure for the museum and the state as a whole. It's the sort of painting you can get lost in. The scene of a couple in their everyday lives in a NYC hi-rise apartment, its colors, shadows and lines are so revealing that you kind of feel like a voyeur peering into the lives of others, drawing you in and leaving you wanting to spend the afternoon swimming in the lime greens and grays. That painting alone is reason enough to love the Sheldon, the free contemporary art museum nestled on the west side of campus in downtown Lincoln. Even though Sheldon is smallish, I try to make a point to visit every time I'm in Lincoln. Hey, admission is always free and with works by Hopper, Warhol, O'Keefe, Pollock and Cassett on view -- plus any number of amazing new exhibits -- it's always a much appreciated cerebral retreat from the stresses of the world at large. Plus the building, built in 1963, is a work of art in its own right.

This is a small museum with some rather famous pieces in its collection, probably most notably Hopper's Room in New York. In addition there are many local artist pieces, and a very nice sculpture garden. The building itself is quite interesting with the gold disc ceilings an white marble structure. Since it's completely free, parking is easy, and it won't take much more than an hour or so to see all the galleries... I don't know any good reasons not to visit if you appreciate art and have the time. While I was there they had exhibitions on art in science fiction, Willa Cather, and New Mexico.Definitely recommended.

I enjoyed my time at this museum, a free gem on UNL campus. Stopped in to see the Hopper painting and discovered a whole lot more. I'm an art amateur but was still able to recognize works by Grant Wood, Georgia O'Keeffe, and Robert Motherwell. The facility is clean and bright, with thoughtful installations and adequate presentation information.

A beautiful architectural piece by Phillip Johnson here in Nebraska. I have enjoyed many art lectures and installations here over the years. Their permanent collect is very nice. I always looedk forward to their visiting exhibits and openings. If you have never been to "Jazz in June" on the lawn, it is a Lincoln must to-do.
