Roots Music Shop

I loved this music shop. I just kind of stumbled upon it when I was wandering around downtown Lincoln. Besides a small but curated selection of vinyl records, Roots is full of all the gear you'd need for your rock band back home--guitars, amps, basses, cables, strings, cases et al. Even a few woodwind and brass instruments as well. The owner said they mainly sell used gear, which is cool with me. I snagged a nice gig bag and a practice amp for a good deal (i.e. less than eBay prices). I had my eye on a couple of record players I might have to make the drive back for.In all, you can't ask for much more from a guitar/music shop. Rock on, Roots!

These guys set up a used guitar I bought for my husband. Everything was great except the electronic tuner worked but the preamp our didn't. They didn't really seem to have or offer any solutions to fix it but repairing that wasn't included in the set up cost so I guess it's fine but I come from an old school small business family and the customer's problem was my dad's problem until it was solved. That is the only way I think Roots could be better. I will go back and use them again.

For those of us who are over the overly comercial Guitar Center, then I welcome you to Roots. This place has a good selection of instruments and related accoutrements that any music lover will enjoy. I also enjoyed their in house repair shop for when my amp needed a little work. It's a great little place.

Super friendly staff that can answer your questions and help you do pretty much anything you need. Prices of products are fair. Bought a great tuner there. Music lessons are tops as well!

Took a bass guitar in to have the action adjusted. They found other issues that I had not seen that needed attention. They did the repairs and polished the frets. It plays wonderfully now. They are super down to earth and focused on the customer. I can't say enough good things about my experience. I will be back for more toys in the future!

Owner was spouting off about his liberal political views and it was offensive to me as a conservative and a military veteran. This is a red state and bashing conservatives is just bad business. Not the greatest selection of gear there either but i try to buy local when i can but stopped going there for the reasons i stated...

I had a wonderful experience at Roots Music Shop and recommend it highly. After a very frustrating transaction at Guitar Center, I was reticent to seek out another shop. Thankfully, I did check out Roots and was blown away by the friendliness and expertise of the owner as well as the Luthier. So far, I have had two guitars set up beautifully and a third one to go. The folks at Roots are honest and always ready for a good conversation. If you are looking for a place to be treated in a neighborly fashion as well as to be assured that you won't be walking into a store whose bottom line is to make as much money from you as possible with no regard to what you really need, then Roots Music Shop is where you want to be. I'll take this locally owned shop over predatory chain stores any day. I only wish I had found Roots before being ripped off at Guitar Center.
