The food here is amazing! Pupusas are delicious and substantial, and other menu items have been great as well. This visit, I got the camarones a la diabla, really spicy with a great flavor (not JUST hot). Served with thick house-made corn tortillas. The real star of the show was the pupusa loca my daughter ordered. We knew that it had a variety of fillings (hence the "crazy") but didn't think about how huge it would be to be able to accommodate them! It is served with cabbage salad and tomato sauce. At a price of $6.50 we never could have predicted this! Fantastic!

You want authentic El Salvadoreño food, you found it!!!!! The papusas are out of this world delicious and so many to choose from!!! Meat, bean, cheese, garlic and cheese, shrimp and cheese, jalapeño and cheese, the list keeps going!!! My favorites were the shrimp and cheese and the garlic and cheese but they were all so delicious and hot and fresh, I almost couldn't choose a favorite (I ordered 7 of the non-meat variety just to compare). I just wish the curtido had more oregano - I love that herbaceous bite. Then there are the plantains! Cooked to perfection - slightly caramelized on the outside and sweet inside. Heaven with crema!!! My Mom got one of their breakfast plate (yes! Served all day!) with steak, eggs, plantains, beans, and that yummy crema! It came with three thick tortillas. She said it reminded her of her time in Guatemala. She was so happy! The horchata has a different flavor than I'm used to - different sugar? Vanilla? Both? Not sure but somehow richer and more winter spiced. It was very comforting. They do have Mexican street tacos in a couple of options (4 meat options if I recall - no carnitas for sure) along with dinner plates and a kids menu. I'll definitely have to go back and have a better look at the rest of the menu but I was focused on the papusas and they didn't disappoint!!!! Don't be surprised if the first person to greet you doesn't speak (or doesn't greet you) in English. This is AUTHENTIC!! And they do a rocking take away business!! The food orders were flying out the door. So many orders! Do yourself a favor and take your tastebuds to El Salvador and stop by for some delicious papusas and platinos today!!!!!!

Before I came to Restaurant Y Pupuseria Salvadorena I didn't even know what a pupusa was. Now I do and I love 'em! They have a full menu of amazing looking food from El Salvador. So, I definitely need to go back again.I stopped by on my way to work to pick up two pupusas to-go. One bean and cheese and one with a mixed filling. SO GOOD! They both came with a crisp, delicious slaw (on the side) to put on top. I wasn't so sure about that, but it turns out to be just perfect with the slaw. They asked if I wanted it spicy. Ha, well of course. I'm a rough, tough guy from Texas. I love spicy. Uh, that stuff is fire. Liquid fire. Get it, but start slow with just a little bit. You can always add more, but you cannot remove the fire sauce once it's on the pupusa. Be warned. Seriously though, this place is authentic and delicious. Give it a go!

Some friends were visiting Omaha a few weekends ago and they mentioned that they wanted to eat some authentic pupusas and asked if I knew of any place in the area. Since they kinda knew a bit about South Omaha already, I recommended that we check out Vinton St. since they've never been there before and it was a great day for an adventure. I picked out this restaurant because I had heard great reviews from coworkers so I thought let's give it a go. As we skimmed through the menu, we were getting hungrier than before. There were so many things to choose from. All of us ordered a couple of pupusas, since I can't wat pork I ordered a revuelta but with cheese and beans. My friends ordered pupusas with cheese and loroco and one with cheese, beans, and chorizo. Let me tell you the fresher the pupusas are the better they are and all I can say is that they were BOMB! I had to order a side of fried plantains with cream, cheese, and beans because you can't go wrong with fried plantains. C'mon now! One more thing, the tamarindo is super refreshing!!! Great experience and my friends enjoyed it! Hope you enjoy it too!!

My 25 year old son wanted me to try eating pupusas, I am probably misspelling this, I had never heard of it before. We ordered 12 of the chicken, six of the pork, and 6 of the bean & cheese. There is another one that is made with a type of flower, that I will definitely try next time. 2 of the pupusas will easily fill up an average eater. There is a type of cabbage slaw and mild red sauce ( there is a hot red sauce, but my son warned me it was very hot!) that you put on top. I am middle aged and can be stubborn at trying new things. I was hesitant, I am not a big cabbage fan, but I tried it and loved it! The pupusas were very delicious and the food there has a very reasonable price! I will definitely go back to this restaurant and try everything thing on their menu!!!! The service was great. Only one young lady spoke English. She was very nice and was happy to answer my questions. It is kind of small inside, so if you have a large family you can get take out! If you are an adventurous couple it's a great place to try!!!

Eager to find the Perfect Pupusa, I found this hidden gem a few blocks east of 24th Street. Although its pupusa assortment was tempting -- Squash & Cheese, Shrimp & Cheese, Fried Pork, etc. -- I decided instead to order an "Eggs, Chorizo, Banana, Beans, Cheese, and Cream" breakfast dish. I was not disappointed. I'm a huge fan of Mexican Huevos Rancheros but I enjoyed this slightly different take immensely. The spiciness of the chorizo and liberal dose of Salvadoran hot sauce combined with the sweetness of the 3 large banana slices, cream, and chunk of soft cheese was palate pleasing -- and the warm, thick, grilled tortillas were perfect for scooping up the almost soup-like black beans. I'm not sure if any of the other diners -- and the restaurant was nearly 3/4's full at lunchtime -- spoke English, which seemed to reinforce my sense that Restaurant Y Pupuseria Salvadorena was "the real deal." Regardless, I enjoyed my meal and will definitely return soon to continue my pupusa quest here in Omaha.
