This is a remarkable museum defined in a town of his size. It's focus is largely on the white history of the area. The museum features and extraordinary collection of local historical pieces and memorabilia. The collection is it arranged A series of displays which reproduces the Aurora main street of the 1800s.The museum enjoys and extremely high degree of community support. Hence it's large and high-quality collection. Most of all the museum preserves local history and high resolution. It is more than worth the time and minor fees to visit. It's only 2 miles or so north of the interstate. You should stop and visit this museum. Highly recommend.

The Plainsman museum is huge it covers two very large barns that have been converted into beautiful displays of the local area of Nebraska and of the journey across the plains. All displays are tasteful and done in a spacious form they are depicting life as it was in another era. The Staff is quite helpful, and noticeably proud of the museum The murals in the entry way are very colorful and under lighted for sure. I really like that the mini dioramas of the past are not overcrowded. Some times in the local museums, attempts are made to display everything, and it can be way to crowded. Here it is done right. There are areas under construction and it will be fun to check in again in a few years to watch the progress. In the back building / barn is all the farm equipment, Lots of tractors of all sizes and the devices you connect to the back of the tractor. is is almost overwhelming to take in.There is a school house on the property that is set up from an earlier time. There is also a farm house that is from an era a few generations ago, that for me was like a home of my grandmother when I was a small child. My oh My soon I may be in a museum too.

Well done Aurora! My husband and I spent most of the afternoon at the Plainsman Museum yesterday. The re-creation of a street from back in time is magical. From sod house to farmhouse, and on down the "street"--you can visit the bank, a saloon or a jeweler--where dozens of clocks tick-tock--reminding one to stop and experience a slower time of life. They are adding more to the town, so I'll enjoy going back!

This is a cute museum of the pioneer movement west, focusing on agriculture a bit and farming. Allow enough time for this gem, because there's lots to see. It's been many years, but the internet has verified that much has been unchanged since I was last here. There's lots of room-size replicas of pioneer life in this museum, so it's hands-on. There's a re-creation of a sod house that is impressive, a school house, log cabin.Aurora is a quiet, nice town. This is perfect day-trip stop if you're a local and want to get out of town (Omaha), or if you're just passing through the state headed west.Excellent for kids, too.

I have to update my previous review. I returned about a year later, and I absolutely love the exhibits here. It gives you a great vision of what early life was like on the plains. The staff is phenominal, and my 4-year old daughter was even taught to weave today. They have everything from old tractors and gas engines, an entire building full of early Americana, and a one-room schoolhouse. One of the best museums I've ever been to!

My family really enjoyed our visit to this surprising little gem of a museum. It is well worth a stop and a couple of hours. We liked the main street replicas, sod house, actual church that has been reassembled inside, and other exhibits. Next door is a science museum so you can have a fun day.

What a great little museum and very interactive! They had QR codes for certain areas that gave a description of what you were seeing. They also had a special area for military memorabilia. Very interesting and worth the visit. They also had outbuildings that we weren't able to see because of time constraints. They should be very proud of what they've accomplished.
