Osteria Kayla

Soooo....we hadn't planned on eating here this week but all of our other favorites downtown were closed. I've put off coming here because we were huge fans of the restaurant that was here previously and were sad when it closed. It was a Tuesday so the restaurant wasn't overly busy. We were greeted and seated right away. Since it wasn't busy it was quiet and relaxing but a little warm which is to be expected in the old buildings downtown. Our server brought waters right away and was very friendly. We ordered the Burrata for an appetizer which was really good. We each got the ribeye for dinner and they were both cooked and seasoned great. The sides of potatoes is where we were disappointed. My husband got the garlic mashed potatoes which tasted amazing but were room temperature. I got the loaded baked potato which also tasted great but you could tell it had been pre cooked (which I get) but it was hard and not warm. We mentioned our concerns to our server and he was very apologetic and offered to get us free dessert but honestly we were so full that we declined the offer. The fact that he offered was really nice.

Wishing I would have read other reviews before coming here. We stopped in on a whim, my in-laws were fans of the restaurant that was here prior to Kayla's. We were here at 7pm on a Wednesday with just a few other parties, and the staff could not be bothered. Requesting anything took a long time to have the chance to do so, and the music was turned off for most of our dinner. The restaurant itself is gorgeous, and the cooks did a great job! All food came out quickly, hot and as requested, but for a nice dinner out, service has got to improve.

We came early one evening and was seated in the bar area. The bartender waited on us, but wasn't particularly attentive. She was busy with other things and we has to flag her down for refills, etc. The food was okay, but nothing special. I probably won't return.

It's been a while since I've been wanting to try this place. We came with a group, the food was good. I had the shrimp Alfredo and I can't believe I ate the whole thing! The Cesar salads that came with entree were fresh and not too over dressed. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their meal as well. Someone had a steak and it looked a little thin and gray...I wonder if the surface were it was grilled was not hot enough, it almost looked boiled to me. The servers were busy although there were less than six customers besides us. Overall it was good, I would come again for the shrimp Alfredo. They have a decent selection of red and white wines.

We came in with a group of four. The atmosphere is decent, except they should close the front blinds to shield people from the setting sun. Service was good and friendly.Two of our group liked the scallop dishes. Cooked to perfection and very flavorful.My steak was overcooked, and a poor piece of meat. Sent it back and the second steak was cooked perfectly. Unfortunately, the quality of meat was very poor again. It was a ribeye, that was gristly with no flavor. The asparagus had little flavor as well. So if you want scallops, check them out. Steaks? Not so much.

We have always enjoyed coming here when we come back to Fremont to visit relatives but this time was a disappointment. The menu had changed and not very diverse. Pasta was with everything. Even our salads were predominantly iceberg lettuce and no side veggies. If you love carbs, this is your place but not mine. Our service was good and the staff was pleasant so no complaints there.

I have really really tried to like this place. The service is consistently good and the ambiance is solid. When J's Steakhouse closed I had high hopes. Sadly, the only thing I've enjoyed eating there has been the French onion soup. I've been stymied by the poor quality steak... twice... shame on me.

IF YOU USE A CREDIT CARD HERE CHECK YOUR STATMENTS!!! My wife and her friend had lunch here the other day, and as usual she leaves a 20%-25% tip. So this morning I get a fraud alert from our credit card company asking if she left a 56% tip!!! FIFTY SIX PERCENT!!!! And the food is not great either, as you can tell by the reviews.

Really good lunch specials. The price is just right. Waitresses are quick and great service! Also a nice little place.

Absolutely delicious!! Love their calamari, our waiter was so kind,inviting, and accommodating and he had so many great recommendations, so much so we ended up get two different deserts. Cannot recommend this place more!!
