I do not recommend working with Omaha Birth Connection in any capacity. You better hope your birth with the owner/doula is less than 10 hours otherwise she might fall asleep and stop giving 100% on the job. And refuse to make it right. We hired OBC's owner/doula to assist with our first birth. Her contract states her fee covers being on call leading up to my birth, 12 hours of labor assistance with additional fees for every hour thereafter plus six weeks of postpartum support. Beware that she makes you pay in full up front. If you don't like the service she provides there's no easy way to get your money back. After just 10 hours of working for us and going into day 2 of my labor, she continued to sleep in my room and never came over to coach me as the rest of the medical team began working with me. Others in the room noticed this and made comments; some even said she mentioned feeling ill the night before. During a discussion about this, the doula finally admitted that since she wasn't feeling well Thursday night into Friday she could have called in a back-up doula but didn't. Any of her other 8+ doulas should have been called in to switch places with her. We were paying for - and wanted - someone to be hands-on and by my side. I didn't get that experience on Friday. We kept trying to address the specific issues we had with her and she'd change the subject with a complaint about the hospital or our midwives. Despite our requests to her/OBC, they refuse to give any money back. Their only response has been to NOT charge us additional fees for her being there past 12 hours, which is a joke because I don't pay people extra $ for not working. After I started speaking out on this...OBC did not complete the Better Business Bureau complaint process with me. They are not BBB accredited so sadly the BBB can't enforce a resolution. We sent OBC a formal letter via overnight mail asking them to respond by a week later and received no response. The owner/doula removed me from the Facebook group Nebraska Birth Support even though I never brought up my issue with her and her business on the page. We didn't get to utilize the six weeks of postpartum support in its entirety since OBC refused to find a resolution with us.
