This base is well maintained and presents an excellent 1st impression, both by the modern massive entrance gate area and with the courteous, professional and proficient airmen manning the entrance to the base.Although this base is old with oldish buildings, it appears to be very well maintained. Enjoyed browsing the Base Exchange and so happy to buy myself a new Guess backpack on clearance...Oh yea!

This base is awesome. Field house is incredible with tons of well kept equipment and large indoor pool. The BX is well staffed and easy to find on base. And the little food court is very convenient for a quick bite. There's also a bowling alley that feels very James Bond. Haha. The construction going on is fun to watch over the years I've been here. It's amazing what this base can do. If you're moving here and need help. Go to lodging in the Malmstrom building. They have maps and great rooms and very friendly staff.

I have fond memories of the 6.5 years I spent at Offutt. They seems stressful when I was there, but looking back, it was a pretty good base at which to be stationed. The Field House is amazing... built in a re-purposed WWII hangar. Excellent equipment and lots of it. The Exchange and Commissary are newly remodeled and the *huge* gas station that was built a few years ago is pretty nice, too.I have to say the Overlook and "General's Row" is probably the nicest parts of the base. The Overlook allows one to watch the aircraft taxi and take off... quite an experience. The 19th Century homes on General's Row is very nice to walk around (I forget but I think 3 times around the parade grounds is about a mile) weather permitting.

Most military bases are the same. One thing that differentiates Offutt is their gym - the field house. It's a gym heaven with an indoor running track, multiple basketball court, cross-fit area, two sauna, a pool, rows and rows of free weights and machines, boxing area, and even a play area for kids. Definitely energizes me every time I get inside. Aside from the gym: The firestone on post has serviced my car on many occasions and they have done a fantastic job. I've also used the post office - that has a 24hr PO Box access. ID card office, household goods, gas station, Burger King, commissary, and post exchange are also not too shabby. Some construction happening on post but it doesn't appear to cause too much of a delay. Getting on and off post during peak times (early morning and during lunch hours) does require some extra time - so plan accordingly.
