Mas Chingon

This place has really gone downhill. As with many businesses shared by the same owner, quality has been hurting badly. Mas Chingon was so good during pandemic times but now the flavors are missing and the food quality is just not the same. It's a shame as they used to have a really good peruvian-influenced dish.

Good food, but suspiciously not busy at all. Stopped in with a group on a regularly-busy Thursday night in Benson to find... a nearly empty restaurant. Which seemed odd. And, if I'm being honest, also made me nervous initially. But our server was friendly. Definitely not overly pushy (I probably could have used even a little more frequent visiting as I probably would have ordered more drinks if so). The food was good also, not anything to count as a negative either. So where were the people...? I think maybe it was the overall vibe. The playlist was working for me, but I'm almost 40 (though I do have pretty great musical taste in my opinion) it also seemed a little mis-matched for the restaurant space. Slightly jarring also was the security camera light that keeps coming on in the corner. And the boxes of drinks that were 'stored' in the restaurant space on the adjacent bench from where we were sitting. While the food was good, and service was nice, ultimately I think the vibe just wasn't working somehow. Though I would definitely eat here again, my qualifier of "someone else would have to suggest it though" is probably in effect here, and thus the three-star rating.

You got the nachos with balbacoa and it was delicious and only $7!!! Filling and good, there was a white cheese that kind of toasted on the bottom and it just added an extra yumminess to the dish. My date had 2 street tacos and a shrimp burrito, I am allergic to shellfish so I could taste it, but it was huge and he said it was very good. He also had 2 house margaritas and I had a drink made with tequila and grapefruit soda. Both drinks were decent. The bill came to less than $60, which is quite reasonable. I will definitely come again, I want to check out their brunch the next time.

I'd pass and move on down the block or street. It used to be good food but the last two times food has lacked flavor and authenticity. Although it is pretty inside even the plants aren't real anymore. Service was fine.

I had never been here but my pops wanted to go out for Cinco de Mayo so I started searching for something new. We usually go to Maria's - Hook n' Lime - Mula etc. So when I found Mas Chignon on here I was intrigued their Instagram is great and it very close to my neighborhood. I also just love Benson in general. When we got there (no reso) - it was packed in a good way - mind you it is a very small restaurant - but still a good sign! They luckily had one two top left and we were seated right away. The decor is really good street style art and the ambiance is very relaxed chic. I had never ordered a real margarita before - Don and Millie's years back doesn't count HA - so I didn't really know if I'd like it. I usually drink wine or IPA's but they do not have wine and carry only Mexican style beers (they have a lot of them though so it's great for people who like them.) My pops ordered a house margarita before I ordered so I could see if I even liked them - it was really tasty ! But I went with the cucumber jalapeño margarita (show here) and it is seriously delicious! It isn't super spicy at all - just a little heat on the end. I was surprised to find the salt super tasty with it - but I only put a little of the rim in my glass so it didn't become a salt bomb. SO GOOD that I ended up getting one more. For a starter we got the chips and guacamole (perfectly flavored and very authentic in my opinion.) For an entree I ordered the Mexican Paella that is composed of: sautéed sautéed calamari - pico de gallo - cilantro - Mexican rice - pork belly strips - and topped with a sautéed 4oz (est.) Mahi Mahi fillet and guajillo crema. When I tell you this was amazing that not doing it justice - I'm literally craving it again right now and probably will until I make my way there again! My pops got the three street taco deal for $9 - I wish I would have taken a photo but I was too excited about my dish ha! He ordered the Carne Asada - Shrimp - and the fish taco (cod.) he said they were all amazing but his favorite had to be the shrimp. They have 13 protein options that you can choose from (vegan - vegetarian- pescatarian - meat.) Overall - we both left happy and very full!

My significant other and I went for dinner on a Saturday night to support local restaurants. After an hour of ordering and waiting. The waitress comes up to us saying they we're out of tortillas and if we wanted to order something else. I would have understood if it was maybe 5-10 minutes, but an hour? Terrible experience and probably won't be coming back. I don't like reading reviews before trying a new restaurant. It sounds like the customer service is going to take this restaurant out of business.

Me and a few coworkers came here a couple of weeks ago and I was excited to try because I have heard good things about the location down south. We walked in and there was only one group at a table. We ordered drinks, guacamole, and elotes and they took forever to get us drinks that were premixed and then when they came back with our drinks proceeded to tell us they were out of guacamole. So we then ordered our meal. Food took awhile and i eventually asked where the elotes were and they said they were also out of that as well I ordered the Pollo Rostiado which was supposed to be chicken thighs and it was very dry chicken breasts. The broccolini that came with the dish had no seasoning on it and it took forever to get our checks. A group of girls walked in to order guacamole after we sat and the server told them they were out so they left and our server said "I don't blame you I would too". Not something you want to hear when you are at a restaurant.

I'm stuck between a 3 and 4 star review, here's the reasons why:1. Food was actually very good and wasn't 100% Mexican American cuisine. It had some authenticity to it with a cool vibe. If you're looking for some good street tacos around benson, this is a place to go! Except the cat/dog logo kinda made me question what was put in the food LOL2. The service was bad, the waitress was sitting talking with her coworker while we were waiting for water and our checks. We even tried calling her name but she continued to chat. Then when she gave us our tickets she only handed us one pen, for a group of 5!3. The prices are a little pricey for tacos. I know most places around town do 4 tacos for $10 or $12. I understand inflation is on the rise, but 3 tacos for $9 is pricier than competitors.So I guess today I'll give this place a 3 star review because of the price and service, but if they had the price or service changed I would bump it up to a 4.

Really nice looking place. They moved locations so be sure to visit the right one a few buildings down across the street. They have a 3 for $5 taco Tuesday deal which was great. I ordered the shrimp, beef belly, and asada tacos. Took about 25 minutes for me to get my order which was the only negative part of my experience. The tacos were tasty and hit the spot!

Wanted to see what this place was all about. Waited in line for about 5 minutes before we were greeted. We had to ask the couple who was also waiting in line what the waitress said since she never addressed us. He said the wait to get a table would be another 5-10 minutes. The place only had two tables full of a total of 6 people eating. And two waiting for the food. This place is clear understaffed for a Friday night. We ended up leaving after waiting 15 minutes and no one ever greeting us.
