I found Los Portales while looking for something close by after a full day at the zoo. The restaurant is small and unassuming. There is a fridge with various drinks including Jarritos and Mexican Coca-Cola. You order at the counter. I ordered a Jarritos, Chicano's, and quac and chips. The food was all great. The portions are huge! You definitely get your money's worth. The quac was great and fresh. This place is 100% authentic. I was glad I made the decision to dine at Los Portales after a long day of walking at the zoo. Definitely recommend if you are in the area!

Casual Mexican food with great hours! You can get food from 9:30- midnight, which I appreciate. You order at the counter and seat yourself. I liked the great selection of items, but it was hard not to get some classic tacos. I really liked the tacos, they do it perfectly simple: meat, cilantro, onion. I liked the tamale as well, but it was lacking on the meat. It was mostly the masa dough, but I actually really liked the dough. It was spicy which is a nice change up. They also have a great selection of ice cream.

This meal was disappointing. I got a gordita (cactus, chorizo, potatoes). It was ok. I should have read the Yelp reviews first! It's just made from corn tortillas and was greasy and tough. My husband had a tilapia meal and was more impressed. The salsas are very good; hot. I think they used to bring chips to the table, now you have to order them. I remember having had better meals here in the past. I probably just should have had tacos, tacos never let me down.

I have neglected this Taqueria for too long. Top notch street tacos. Original Goodrich location. A smart location off of 13th and Vinton and in eastern portion of little Mexico. Off street parking lot to avoid the crazy 24th traffic. Wonderful and quick service. Ice cream for dessert.

Cute place with counter ordering. People were friendly and food was brought to our table quickly. Food was authentic, tasty and well priced. Parking lot is usually full when I drive past and now I know why.

Despite residing next to Los Portales for four years, my first visit left me less than impressed. The overall experience was rather mid-tier, with nothing truly standing out by with take out order. The carnitas tacos, while substantial in portion size, left something to be desired as the meat was very dry. Although the corn tortillas appeared homemade, they served as a common base for numerous dishes. Interestingly, even items like gorditas, traditionally made with a masa shell, were crafted from corn tortillas here-- greasy ones at that. This greasiness extended to the sope base as well. While the visit didn't dazzle, I appreciate the effort in experimenting with traditional dishes, even if the execution fell short of expectations.

My boyfriend and I (both from LA) discovered this gem after having a bad experience with another Mexican restaurant in Iowa, we needed a redemption. And I quote my boyfriend, "Leaving this restaurant, I feel like I should be giving them an award or something; magical!" My boyfriend and I got the carne asada burrito and fries. I can honestly say that this is one of the BEST burritos I've had in my life!!! Raised in Mexico and Southern California, I'm amazed on how I enjoyed my food! The carne asada fries (pico de gallo on the side) are like the Cajun style (so yummy) and they are very generous with the avocado slices on top of the fries. The carne asada in both the burrito and fries was tasty and tender. We are definitely coming back to get the burrito and try other foods in their menu. The service was great! The ambience is a legit mom and pop Mexican restaurant. Loved it!

This place has excellent street tacos! I love that you can add avocado and queso fresco to the traditional street tacos with cilantro and onions. The asada (steak) is marinated so perfectly! It's very flavorful. I highly recommend it. The service is great too! The staff is friendly.

The food was delicious and a great price! I LOVED the horchata and the Al Pastor street taco was my favorite. The restaurant is small but there was still enough seating, while also being clean. I enjoyed the Mexican music that was playing. The service was quick and the lady taking my order was really kind and made the recommendation for the Al Pastor taco, which as I already mentioned was my favorite!

Don't let the dark front of this place fool you. Come on in, it is well worth it! This is super casual Mexican food at its best. Paper plates and plasticware and some of the best food I have ever had. I ordered the Dorados Taco platter. I was feeling conservative so I went with the ground beef. I piled on the red sauce and the flavor bomb was incredible! They seasoned the meat like none other I have tasted. I had the flour shells which were slightly fried and not greasy at all. The rice was great and the beans were silky smooth. I loved this joint and will be back to try all of the other meat choices.
