A good loaf of Lithuanian sourdough rye bread is a gift from God. living in Chicago, we used to enjoy great Lithuanian Ryebread from neighborhood bakeries. A delicate hint of sour, and a soft touch of light rye, with a fresh scent of caraway and onion..... it is a perfect loaf! Chewy, but still supple. they have mastered the craft. People living in Lithuania might be jealous! But such bakeries are rare, even in Chicago nowadays. we live here in California and there is nothing even close to what we remember. But luckily, this little gem of a bakery is making their incredible Lithuanian sourdough rye bread available via Goldbelly. if you are lucky enough to be standing in front of this bakery, run, don't walk inside and buy as many loaves as you have money for. They will freeze well, and they will be the best bread you have ever eaten. If you are not standing in front of it, do what I did. go to their website, and order by Goldbelly. I plan to do it for as long as they remain in business. This bread certainly makes a good sandwich if you slice it thin. But I prefer it toasted, with butter. Or better yet, smeared with Lithuanian farmers cheese that has bits of Caraway. The toast softens the cheese a bit, and you have a gooey treat! If you don't have such cheese (Andrulis is a good brand) consider a good creamy goat or even a simple cow's milk cream cheese spread from good ol' Philadelphia. Honestly, you can just eat it straight from. The loaf. Can't go wrong.

Stopped in the Lithuanian Bakery as part of the NE Passport program. Due to the large number of people trying the famous Napoleon Torte, we decided to go a different direction. Including the samples, we were able to try several items. Here's our list:Butter cookie - average, soft enough to crumble, a little better than store bought. Chocolate Chip Cookie with Nuts - good, crunchy in textureCream Cheese Brownie - really good, rich in tasteCream Cheese Danish - ok, dry bread and dry middleIf I was basing my rating simply on the food, Lithuanian Bakery would receive 4 stars. Good pastries, but, not something I would go out of my way for.The biggest downside to our visit was the customer service. The young man serving us was more focused on the trivia question that comes with the NE Passport app, and the fact that we already looked at it, than promoting the bakery. While he did help us get our choices, he didn't do anything to help our decision or make the bakery a place we would want to visit again. If you are in the area, you should definitely try the Lithuanian Bakery, if not, I don't see a reason to go out of your way.Happy eating Yelpers!

I was lucky enough to get one of their Babka cakes. I guess they make these the week before Easter. Delicious! It was moist and had raisins and so much flavor. Not the typical cake batter, it's more like pastry bread. Delicious! Marking my calendar for next year!

Great bakery that's been in South Omaha for a very long time - I've been coming here off-and-on for over a decade. Service here is always friendly and food is always great quality; I love their long butter cookies as well as the cherry turnovers & their big chocolate chip cookies. I have yet to try the kolaches but they look very delicious as well. I highly recommend stopping by to try this place out.

I went looking for this place based on the review. However this is my take on it.1. Lithuanian Sourdough Rye: What a great idea!!!! However the execution here leaves alot of room for improvement. First, the loaf I pick out was over cooked and very dry. I ended up going to the other store because I wanted individual torte slices, and the lady was kind enough to exchange it for a lighter but not overcooked loaf. If you ever had San Franciscan sourdough, you know that very sharp flavor and aroma. This bread had no trace of sourdough. My advice to the baker is to check the sourdough starter...it's not sour dough anymore. The rye part of this bread was also very weak. So what could have been spectacular turned out to be a very bland loaf of breadI also tried a variety of pasteries like the apple dumpling, the round crunchy pastry, a hard stick that looked like a Lithuanian version of churro. Overall, the pastries had a very pronounced flour taste and texture to all the foods. They were good but not spectacular.

While it's unassuming exterior makes it a little hard to find, this old school South Omaha bakery and deli oozes at the seem with character. I drove out here specifically to try their famous Napoleon Torte. They had two sizes of tortes available, one for $15 and one for $25. These are basically flaky, layered cakes with a hint of apricot that are very, very delicious. I recommend bringing one to a pot luck/party/family get together, you'll have something for everyone to enjoy and rave about. And only 10 ingredients -- preservative free! They also have a variety of pastry, cheeses, breads and oils. I'm looking forward to trying the noms at their cafe 74th and Pacific (http://www.yelp.com/biz/lithuanian-bakery-and-cafe-omaha?nb=1) one of these days.

we placed an order for several products for Easter 2024 for pickup on Saturday the day before Easter. when we arrived in the morning did not have the order and made some lame excuse about the bakers not baking enough. what kind of customer service is that? this business will fail.

Get the Napoleon Torte. It is FANTASTIC. Their bread and cookies are pretty good also. I was told to get there around 2:30-3:00 pm if you want bread right out of the oven.

The Napoleonas Torte lives up to the hype. I took it home with me to share with my family and everyone really enjoyed it. I liked the other things I tried there as well, especially the butter cookies and the elephant ears (I forget the official name. They're the powdered sugar covered biscuits). They're all pretty dry though, so get a drink. The man at the counter was really nice to us and made some thoughtful recommendations.
