Amazing to the point of being almost overwhelming, Kanesville has a huge selection of LPs and other media. Stuff that you're not going to find anywhere else is here. You may not be able to find it without help though so be sure to ask if there is something specific you want to find. So much fun to look around. If you're feeling adventurous, head to the second floor where everything is $1. But even on the main floor the prices are very reasonable.

I want to begin by saying I love this store. I've only been once a few years back but I will be going back sometime in the near future. Otherwise, my children who where not with Mom and I, might cause me physical harm.Ok, these are my issues with the store. I went into the back area looking for science fiction or fantasy mass market paperbacks. I often purchase older ones to carry around on my person because of frequent and long waiting room visits. I first noticed a smell of mildew when entering into this room. There seemed to have been some roof damage. The walls had some moisture in spots and some of the bookshelves seemed to be "swollen" from water damage. Whole sections of books had also had water and mold damage. The rest of the store was great and the gentleman who was working was very helpful. We had a discussion about a signed, Dr Demento record on display. Let me say this, "staff matters". I wouldn't have bought anything because of the back room but with the employees engagement with both my wife and myself, I spent more then I had budgeted for this visit. This store has such a depth of stuff, it can easily be overwhelming. The employee (I apologize for forgetting his name) addressed our needs, "how are you" and "can I help you find anything"? He didn't grunt and walk away but engaged us in conversation, hence my previous comment about the record. In doing this he found some interests that my wife and I had. He then first directed my wife because she became excited about some hard bound, I believe Willa Cather books. My wife is a big fan of hers and weve done the hometown tour but though I enjoy historical fiction, Ms Cather is not one of my top one hundred authors in this field. While wife began breaking the wallet, I was gently guided to there comic collection. Because as always, though my children were not with us, I had a list of there "wants". He was good and if hadn't wrestled ourselves out of the store, we'd have to see if the store would take a limb as payment.

This is a collector's paradise. The person I talked to behind the counter was friendly, professional and knowledgeable. The other reviews say it all so I don't have to, but I would like to add that if you're thinking about spending any amount of time in basement I would highly recommend wearing an N95 mask at the very least as it smells very moldy down there. The only other negatives are that the used audio equipment I saw was pretty cheesy and manoeuvring around all the piles of stuff can be difficult for an able-bodied person and completely impossible for anyone else.

There's crates & piles of records everywhere, along with VHS tapes, DVDs, music cassettes, and other forms of physical media. Upstairs is where all of the more popular records are. Those records are for the most part reasonably priced upon their value which depends on both rarity & popularity. Some are a little pricier than they should be, but at the same time there's also a lot of bargains that you can get here as well. Downstairs is where the older records lie - you should ask the staff for permission to go down there first. It is a bit dusty & moldy down there so I don't recommend staying down there for too long, but there's piles of 78rpm records everywhere down there to look through. Staff here is very friendly. If you live in the Omaha/Council Bluffs area or nearby and you're a record lover but haven't been to this place yet, you should definitely check this place out.

So I didn't know about this place till I found it on the internet...This is the coolest record store ever, it's like a massive musty old basement full of hidden treasures, the store manager is quite a character, very helpful and he knows where everything is, the place is an organized messThis place has been around for over 30 years!!! This is a REAL old school record store, not you're trendy hipster hangout. This place has over 1,000,000 records. It is the largest collection in the midwest. Make sure you look up where the place is on Google maps before you go, it's very easy to miss, this unassuming building is hiding an amazing store.

A must stop for vintage vinyl lovers if you are in the area. The place is absolutely packed with vinyl and at times it's a challenge to navigate. Not wheelchair or walker accessible for sure. If you have OCD or problems with the appearance of clutter, this place may overwhelm you. But appearances can be deceiving, as the owners (who are GREAT) know where everything is and can point you right to it. How they can remember what they have when they have this much, I'll never understand! I always have a good time here rediscovering long ago vinyl and getting deals. You may even find a "free" bin outside the front door - but don't take it all!

Kanseville Kollectables is an awesome place to find that rare vinyl album that you've been looking for for years. If it hasn't already been bought by some one else, that is. When you walk in, it kind of looks like a mess with records and other things stren about, and it kind of smells like an old house, but their are method's in the owner's madness.I like to go in there every now and then to see what I can find. About 8 years ago, I was on a mission to get all the original Led Zeppelin vinyl albums in my possession. The most coincidental case in my life was when I walked into Kanesville Kollectables one day and asked for them, the owner said, 'Well actually, we just bought an estate sale and the person had most of them. We are actually going through them right now. Want to take a look?'. I jumped for joy, and low and behold, this estate basically had all of them except for one. I purchased them at awesome prices, (because they aren't necessarily rare, but hard to find), and left my name and number if they happen to come across the other one I was missing.About 8 months later, my parents got a call from the guy at Kanesville, and he told them that he got in Led Zeppelin's 'I' album. (I was away at college). So my parents went there and purchased it for me to complete my collection. That is great customer service.I don't go in there too often, but when I do, I always seem to find something that trips my trigger; whether its a rare comic book, movie, or music.

If you're expecting a perfectly organized record store and easy to find selections, go elsewhere. And, no, that's not a complaint, because this place is a crate digger's dream come true! While they didn't have everything I was looking for (what place does, though?) it was worth the three hour drive up from Kansas City to go here! I may have an annual (or maybe bi-annual) destination! If you don't mind digging through stacks and crates of records and getting your hands dirty (literally!) and putting in the work to find the records you want, you won't find better deals than here! I found records here for prices so low it blew my mind! Worth all the effort!

I really like this business and have been coming here for years. My brother, who is a serious comic book collecter introduced me to Kanesville Kollectables and i was hooked. If you are interested in comic books, LPs, 45s you have found a good place to find what peaks your fancy. They also have collectable magazines, 8 traacks, VCR tapes. If you need another record player or parts for one you already own, the staff probably have what you are needing. The owner and staff are very friendly and very helpful!

In the past, we used to make a regular monthly journey from Des Moines to Council Bluffs to visit this store. We'd leave early, and spend an entire day in the store from open to close piling up records and eagerly digging through stacks upon stacks of vinyl. It appears unorganized, but asking the owners if they have something you are looking for it's like they know where to at least start looking for it. Their knowledge of their collection is impressive based on it's mass. While the first floor is for the novice digger with categorizations and a level of organization, an experienced record buyer would likely find themselves upstairs in one of the $1 record rooms categorized loosely by genre and playing speed be it 33 or 45 rpm. Don't expect heat in the winter, or air conditioning in the summer and you'd probably benefit from a dust mask and gloves. If you are a collector in the midwest, or a journeyman stopping on your way cross country, you'd be a fool to not visit this location.
