Jonesy's has been around forever (or at least since I was a kid, which was forever ago), and while they're a little unassuming and divey, they do have some tasty options (those puffy tacos!)My husband and I visited Jonesy's recently after not having been there for quite a while. The decor is the exact same as what I remember from long ago, with sombreros and maracas on the walls. There are a few booths along the front window and along the side wall, as well as a few free-standing tables in the middle of restaurant. The booths (at least the ones along the windows) are all connected between the backs, so you definitely feel every move of the people in the booth behind you. If that's something that bothers you, I would sit at a normal table. The bar has wooden cupboards like a classic old kitchen, and is full of cool mugs, which I hope are there for regular customers and they get to keep their mugs there :-)When you pop in to eat, you seat yourself, and one of the wait staff comes to take your order. The waitress we had on our last visit was super nice and patient with us as we ordered way too much food.We started with the Beef Nachos, which came with LOTS of cheese on top of the beef and chips, which was great. The only one way to improve the base item is to ask for salsa, to cut that cheesy beefiness a little bit. Simple to ask for and makes it perfect!I ordered the Combo #4, which included two beef enchiladas, and one beef fried taco. The way Jonesy's does the fried tacos makes them into the puffy taco style, that is so so good. The beef is cooked like the old style loose meat sandwiches, and the cheese on top is bomb, almost tasting like finely shredded Velveeta.I got a side of the Smiley Fries, because I'm an adult with a very refined palate, and hadn't had these since Valentino's stopped doing their buffet. Jonesy's version is SO good and fried up excellent. The smiley shape makes it honestly taste better than normal fries, with so many places (the eye holes, the smile) for crispiness to hide. My husband definitely stole a few of these and almost ordered his own basket. For his entree, he had the Chicken Enchilada, at the suggestion of our waitress. The beef enchiladas I had were good but the chicken gives it a different texture where beef kind of melds together with the tortilla and sauce. We both got beans and rice on the side of our dishes. The rice is like Spanish Rice, so it does have a good flavor, and the beans have the delicious shredded cheese on them too.At the end of the meal, the server brings you your check and you pay up front. This is where there is one last thing you need to snag before you pay - the brownies at the front! They are homemade, scrumptious, airy little squares of chocolate heaven. I'd say this is a good Tex-Mex option in the midtown area, check you should definitely check it out if you are a fan of divey, classic, greasy spoon spots.

Came here for taco Tuesday and got a few tacos to go. It's a great deal you get tacos for 2.50 a piece. I tried the beef and chicken both were good but i thought the beef was better. I'll be back again when I'm in the mood for some puffy tacos at a great price!

These are the most delicious puffy tacos around! I especially liked the beef, and the shell texture is perfectly balanced as light and fluffy with just a bit of crisp, melts in your mouth! Same goes for the chips, and delicious margarita while you wait! Don't skip the Funnel Fries, only downside is you can't eat just one! Very friendly staff!

This is usually a great place but yesterday their brown enchilada sauce was too salty and not as flavorful as usual. I tried their tamale for the first time and it was ok. Their chips are awful. And so was the beef taco. Maybe it was just an off day.

I can't tell you how many times we pass Jonesy's while traveling 60th St, but we finally stopped in after galavanting around the Florence/Ft Calhoun area.Honestly... their food didn't blow air up my skirt. It was, so-so. Thankful they had the "puffy taco" shells, and a non-meat version for some folks who choose not to eat meat but perhaps they taste bomb when you're a few sheets to the wind. I snagged the bean taco, and T tried their beef taco and chicken taco - add a side of rice and beans to share. The refried beans, more than likely from a can (and that's fine), their rice was hard and chewy in some places and had an odd chemical taste (to me, at least. T didn't get the same taste I experienced) to them. More "salsa" (vs chemical) taste was his take away from the rice. Their mild salsa was runny and didn't fair much of a taste. The shredded chicken had a good spice to it, a lot of it. The ground beef was seasoned well, not too many spices, also a TON of it which makes the bottom of the taco soggy, and empties out. Now the FRIED ICE CREAM... 100/10. Finally corn flakes that aren't a hundred years old, stale, and chewy. It had a caramelized, candied coated ball of vanilla. Which sat in a cinnamon sugar dusted bowl of goodness, topped with whipped cream from can. Which in and of itself, is worth going back for!

We have had takeaway tacos from Jonesy's a few times and decided to eat in. Bookguy loves the tacos because they are so stuffed with beef, lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese, that when he finishes his basket of three, the overflow filling is like another taco without the shell. This time he assumed I wanted a bean burrito, and ordered that. I changed it by saying, "This time I'll try an enchilada ". Neither of us specified beans or what size and the server didn't clarify. The enchilada placed in front of mewas enormous and seemed to be only beef with a generous coating of cheese and a tasty sauce. My fault for not clarifying bean. I ate it anyway, and it was really good. I especially liked the sauce. Bookguy ate the other half the next day and thought it was salty. We also had a mixed chip basket with guacamole. I would get just flour chips next time because I liked how they paired with the guacamole, which was great. I think the pricing is very good too. I had a margarita, which was maybe just a little light on the tequila, but still refreshing. Next time I will try something vegetarian for sure.

We recently visited Jonesy's Taco house for "Taco Tuesday". They had chicken and ground beef tacos for $2.50 each. We got three of each for the two of us. Two tacos were plenty for me. The size of the tacos was much bigger than street tacos. They were served in a fried flour tortilla which I liked but my husband wasn't a fan. We enjoyed the beef the best. We chose "hot" heat level for the sauce. They bring the sauce in a squirt bottle so you can apply the amount you want. We didn't think the sauce seemed very hot at all. The ingredients were fresh and good quality. We just felt like overall the flavor wasnt very authentic Mexican. More like tacos you would make at home. They had lots of customers and they had our food out to us very fast (5 minutes). The decor is eclectic and very casual. We left full and out tab was inexpensive but we will probably keep searching around for more taco experiences. Would definitely recommend for a large family who likes mild flavors.

Visited for our first time for Taco Tuesday. Tacos are $2.50 each and are pretty big, I love the fried flour shell, it's hard to find these kind of Tacos other than Romeos. My husband is a big fan of Romeos but we frequent there too often, but I was in the mood for a good taco so we gave it a try.The Tacos were just what we like, and we ordered a small deluxe Nacho which was very good and tasty.I realize this is an older building but I thought it was not very clean, surely didn't look like the pictures. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. I hope they deep clean a little better in the future. With that we will be back even though it's clear across town for us. The Tacos are worth coming back for.
