JBs Cafe Horsedhoe Casino. We ordered a Ruben sandwich with tator tots. Feel like a big KUDOS is due to you!!! Awesome Ruben full of flavor and loaded with all the yums a Ruben has. We both agreed it was actually the best we've ever had and we've had plenty! Also the tator tots were great flavor. I like the hint of onion in them. Price was also appreciated. Keep up the great productions in your kitchen! job well done. thankyouRoger & Cynthia

Let me start out by saying that this is a string of subpar reviews, which is out of the ordinary for me. I prefer to help businesses. I'm not the cruel type (cruel = weakness, only the strong can be kind--I know because I was once cruel). At the same time, underwhelming is underwhelming and I must report the facts. Fortunately, there is something about JB's that is excellent. I'll save the best for last. In the meantime, I'd like to give you a piece of advice. If you ever go to Iowa and people tell you, "This place has great pizza," please remind yourself that Iowa is great for a few things (primarily steakhouses, methheads, and tornados), but pizza isn't one of them. I took this local advice and got the pizza at JB's. If you know pizza, then as you can see from the picture, it's not very appetizing. I struggled to eat the first slice, ate half of the second, and then decided to give away the rest. I figured that would be easy due to 'amazing' pizza but it wasn't. I went up to five people before the sixth person couldn't believe I was giving him a pizza. The Turkey sandwich tasted like something you would pack for a climb up Mt. Washington in NH so you could eat it at the peak. The good news: This place is really an amazing bakery that also serves food. If you're looking for baked goods, go here! I was very impressed. The service was also pretty good. It depended who was working but it's the Midwest and you will mostly find kindness. And while you might find great food in some places in Iowa, it will not be found in Council Bluffs. Even traveling poker dealers say this often (good stop but terrible for food). I'll be posting some food reviews in near future as it's a way of reliving adventures I lived in the poker world for years. In fact, I have very likely lived a more adventurous life than any breathing poker player over the past six years. It had its costs but would I change anything? Hell no! Also, I don't know what the next chapter will be, but it will also involve adventure. I got a little off-topic there. I have written entire books about these adventures and I have no plans on writing any books for years so I might be adding little tidbits here and there on Yelp.

My husband and I stumbled upon JB's Cafe when we were in Council Bluffs looking to relive the salad days of the casino buffet. Harrah's didn't have a buffet at all anymore, and Horseshoe also didn't have an operating buffet (temporarily closed), and explained it had been that way since the pandemic, which made sense. Horsehoe's steakhouse was also closed, but they let us know their late night option, the JB Cafe was open, so that is how we found ourselves at the JB Cafe at 11pm one night. The cafe is quite casual, but the cashier at the front was very nice and funny. You order at the front counter and receive a number stanchion, then go and find a table and they bring your order out. If you get a soda, they come in very small cups, but I think that is because they are free like they are on the casino floor. The dining area was very clean, which was nice for a cafe tucked at the back of a hallway of the casino. Our food came out quickly and the server who brought it out was also pleasant and let us know the status of a few of the things that were still coming, etc. They had the breakfast menu available all day, as well as lunch/dinner items like burgers, sandwiches, salads, and pizzas. There was a special (that I ordered) of an open faced turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy. It tasted pretty good but there were some hard chunks in the potatoes, so I'm not sure what that was. The turkey was good and the bread beneath, soaked in the gravy, was amazing. My husband chose the breakfast route and got French Toast, sausage, and scrambled eggs. I tried each of these items, and the French toast was sweet and tasty, and not too burned or too soft. The sides of eggs and sausage were pretty salty, so I think I would stick with just the a la carte French Toast if I ordered that again. So the staff were great, the space was clean, but the food was just kind of "meh" unfortunately, with good and bad aspects.I think I would only recommend JB's Cafe if, like in our situation, Jack Binion's Steakhouse is closed.

Thw was great and tasteful and prepared in a reasonable time. The attendants were very friendly and accommodating and even checked on us in a couple of occasions. However, the ambience with the smoke smell took a star out of the review. We are from another state and hate inside smoking rules.

Lunch menu has limited items. The price is reasonable with big portion, but it tastes just ok. Nothing impressive.

JB's is located inside of the Horseshoe Casino in the back just outside of the Poker Room. Menu is a decent selection of breakfast items, burgers, sandwiches and regular specials.Omelets are very tasty with good sized portions for reasonable cost. If you have a Horseshoe Player's Card, you can get a 10% discount

Having just got back from vacation in Las Vegas, it was nice to be able to compare environments between there and Council Bluffs. I will grant you that our visit was on a Sunday while waiting for an event at the Mid-America Center, so it might be a little skewed versus a busy Friday or Saturday night. What we experienced was friendly staff, a very clean environment with seating perfect for people watching. While there was a smoker nearby, the HVAC was sufficient to whisk it away before it became annoying. The food was great and in large portions. I can imagine this place would be perfect after a night of drinking and craps!

This is great, quick food. The portions are HUGE. The staff is always friendly despite how busy this place always is. I had the hot beef sandwich which comes with mashed potatoes and gravy. It was enormous and could feed two people.

Disgusting. Soup of the day (Italian wedding) was congealed and tasteless. Club sandwhich meat was fatty, gray and cheese was sticky and cheap. Husbands Ruben was fatty and had an excessive amounts of sauce. I don't expect gourmet from a casino diner, but I do expect it to be edible. This was not. Save your money and get some Burger King or a bag of chips or something to hold yourself over other than this poor excuse for food.

Still waiting to get my food. However it's very shady how when you pay with a card, it asks for a tip, then it prints a receipt for you to sign, which also has a tip line on it. They definitely use this to take advantage of people who have been drinking. Shady business tactics.
