Our experience with Jakes Odd Jobs has been the worst experience I have had with a small business in my lifetime. We contracted JOJ to repaint our deck. The owner came over and took notes and measurements. He asked a few questions and stated he would get back to us shortly. JOJ's estimate was 40% lower than any of the others received and we paid him in full to complete the project. From the get go it was a nightmare. JOJ contacted my wife on the first day to talk about the deck being painted white (it is currently brown). My wife informed him that we had wanted everything to remain the same color. JOJ stated that wasn't in his notes, he had already bought the materials to paint the deck white, and we would have to pay for the white plus having to now purchase the materials to paint it brown.Next JOJ communicated to my wife that he would be willing to remove lattice work on the cover portion of the deck and replace it. At no point did JOJ offer an estimate of what the additional work would be. My wife said "ok" thinking an estimate would be fourth coming. When we got home all the demolition had been completed. We were informed the next day that the project was not 173% over budget to date and that immediate payment would be needed for JOJ to continue on the job. Furthermore, JOJ stated that the project would be an additional 125% of original estimate to finish. We requested multiple times an itemized invoice to check on the hours spent on project plus materials purchased and have been repeatedly told "a small business has a lot of expenses and it sometimes costs more to deal" to date no itemized list has been provided to us.We subsequently fired JOJ from the project, and filed a BBB complaint. JOJ subsequently damaged property, and purposefully ruined some of the painting done on railings and support beams upon leaving the job site.JOJ presented a final invoice that was still not itemized, 3 days later we disputed the invoice via certified letter disputing the invoice. We again requested an itemized calculation so that we can reconcile against home security footage the amount of time spent on property, the actual number of workers spent on property, and the amount of delivered materials that were spent on project. We also pointed out that materials that were being charged were never delivered, and finally that damage had been done upon JOJs exit from our property. JOJ to date has ignored those requests and has continually demanded payment. This company, in my opinion, is dishonest. They purposefully went to my spouse to discuss any changes to the project and have even stated that maybe the "woman" misheard, misunderstood, or wasn't smart enough to understand the question. They lowballed an estimate on purpose to get the job, and quickly (it appears) made up and jacked up pricing when only 1/4 done with the work as a way to hold us hostage to get more money. In my opinion, the worst possible contractor on the planet. Avoid doing business with them at all costs.
