Iron Horse Charitone

It's just the tables. They were painted with a latex paint. It was peeling from the table. Okay, that's out of the way. WOW. This was worth the hour trip to eat here! Friendly staff, amazing food! I ordered the pastrami Rueben with onion rings. The pastrami was chopped (SO FREAKING GOOD!) on marble rye...grilled to absolute perfection. Their onion rings are battered in Sam Adam's and served with a side of (horseradish sauce) zesty sauce. My kids had a burger and chicken strips. They both liked their food. My 11 year old said it was the best burger he's had "in quite a while" lol! I have every intention on making another trip down next month! Just to get that sandwich again!

I visit a lot of small towns across Iowa where the only restaurant is either a Casey's or a place that even the locals won't go however the new Iron Horse Charitone was an extremely pleasant surprise!The waitstaff were eager and kind to a man who was clearly just trying to find a little wifi and get some work done between meetings around lunch time. The beers on tap were impressive and because they were running a deal on Bell's Two Hearted Ale I might have had one or two! I ordered the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich breaded with fries. I'll be honest, I don't have a photo to post because it was delicious and I ate it too quickly! The toppings were fresh, the sauce was just the right amount of spicy, and the meal was hot and perfectly cooked & presented. There were a few other business lunches going on and a couple who had just come in on their Harleys and everyone felt comfortable and well taken care of. Being situated in the old hotel gives it charm. The decor was not overly fancy but clean and the menu was filled with classic favorites but nothing over the top creative. I will definitely come back here for the hospitality and solid food.

Super friendly and helpful staff and prompt service. Nice atmosphere, bright and sunny.The food arrived in a reasonable amount of time, I ordered a patty melt and as the pic shows most of the sandwich was bread and melted cheese. The portions don't fall in line with the high prices. My meal was served on an ice cold plate and within minutes my burger was cold. I will probably think twice before visiting again. In my opinion it's a little pricey for super small-town America.

In my opinion the food at the Iron Horse is not at all as good as it used to be. I had a Patty Melt, it was very hard to swallow, overcooked, and didn't taste great. Another food item was a breaded tenderloin , overcooked with a wet batter on it.I'm done meeting clients there; you'll get more bang for your buck going to Mexican; in my opinion.

Love it so much this restaurant serves the best sirloin steak. Highly recommend this restaurant to everybody.

Great food and drinks at a good price point. Can get a real meal for what a fast food place would charge for a combo meal. So, why would you, if you have the time. Good draft beer selection also! They do have vegan options also.

Out of towners staying in town for work. Great food and service. Would definitely recommend.

Asked for a cup of orange juice , they brought the orange juice but first sip it tasted weird and had a bunch of foam on top of the juice tasted like kombucha . I told them and they took it back and brought me a new one . Turns out it was the same thing so I asked for a water lol. Stomach was hurting all day some expired garbage.

This restaurant was a wonderful surprise in a off the beaten path town called Chariton!! The wait staff were amazing and the food was some of the best in Iowa! We had wings, chicken Philly and wine. The selection was very broad. We definitely recommend this place for happy hour or Dinner!

Foods bomb it's pretty expensive but it's definitely worth it, the best food in Chariton
