the outside of the store

As Shelby said in her review below, "If your gas light is on in your car, then this place will fit the bill. They also have free air, which for whatever reason, I always like. Otherwise, there isn't much to offer here. There is a tiny convenience store inside, with the most basics of basics (soda, chips, smokes, etc)."that pretty much sums this place up perfectly. To be a bit more verbose with it though, theres much more to talk about. This location is great to go to in the middle of the night in the summer if your suicidal and want to catch a bullet, or you really want to live out your dream of being Jake Gyllenhaal in nightcrawlers and have way too many gopro's at your disposal. I'm using black humor because I live across the street off of Read, and I get to hear the rootie-tootie-point-and-shooties multiple times a week when the season is right. I don't know when the last time the pumps were calibrated, but the last 2 times I've gotten gas here, my car has only gotten around 200 miles to a tank, when i usually get about 340. Maybe the gas is bad, maybe the pumps are off and I'm not actually getting 16.4 gallons, maybe councilman Ben Gray needs to take up this as his next cause involving this location and figure out whats going on with the gas situation. I don't know, I'm just a guy on the internet who's got enough free time at the moment to write a yelp review for a gas station.Last couple times I've also seen the full to overflowing trash cans others have described, and there is a higher than average likelihood of running into a "Gasoline Grifter" at this location, asking you for 5 bucks for gas so they can make it to there neighbors babies sisters cousins dog-walkers Bar Mitzfah. I always offer to swipe my card at their pump and let them get some gas that way. Funny how at that point, they aren't actually interested in gas, but yet they had just said they needed gas a second ago That having been said, there is free air on the south side of the building, which is always a nice thing to find at a gas station.

As a gas station, Howell's offers three grades of fuel, pay at the pump, free air, an ATM, a mechanic on duty, and limited snacks. As a part of the Minne Lusa/Florence Field neighborhood, this location is not a good neighbor.Living across the street, I often have to pick up trash that has blown out of the overflowing trash cans into my yard. There are sketchy vehicles loitering in the parking lot, or making short trips back and forth several times an hour. In warmer months, it's not uncommon that the parking lot become an after hours gathering place where people go after the bars close. On the good nights, this ends with loud music and yelling. On bad nights, this ends with me checking my siding for bullet holes in the morning. This BP is on the local gang unit's radar for a reason. In 2017, this was the go to place for local gang violence on the anniversary of several members' deaths. As a neighborhood, Minne Lusa petitioned OPD and Ben Gray to approach the owner about restricting the hours he was open to encourage a decline in gang activity. Thankfully, there has been less gun violence since, but the unsavory and unneighborly activity hasn't stopped. I have made the choice to not patronize this location, instead taking my business down the road to the Shell on 30th and Bondesson. Even when I only need a gallon or so for my lawn mower or snow blower.

If your gas light is on in your car, then this place will fit the bill. They also have free air, which for whatever reason, I always like. Otherwise, there isn't much to offer here. There is a tiny convenience store inside, with the most basics of basics (soda, chips, smokes, etc). On my most recent visit, the trash cans were overflowing, so it's not the cleanest of establishments. Realistically, there isn't much to review or get excited about this place. I would only stop here if I really needed to fill up...

Everyone in our neighborhood had been going to Howell's Amoco/BP for decades when they were at 52nd & Military. When they sold the location we were devastated. The good news is that they moved the service guys to this location!

The mechanics at Howell's are wonderful! I, and many of my neighbors, used them for 25+ years when they were at the 52nd & Military Ave location. They know what they are doing; they do it right the first time; they charge a fair price; they get it done on time. We were (and still are) upset the owners sold the station in our neighborhood and relocated the mechanics to 30th Street. We still use them, we just can't walk home like we used to. I will never go to a dealership when I can get better, honest service at Howell's.I'm sad to see the reviews from a year ago from the neighbors about after-hours activity. Hopefully, it has ended. Based on crime reports from the area it seems to be an issue with people other than the owner/operator of the business. The Omaha Police Department encourages anyone who sees activity like that (gangs, unknown/extraneous people congregating at closed businesses) to call 911. At minimum, OPD will send a cruiser to drive by and check it out.
