I worked at Homer's in the late 1980s when vinyl was king, and we all also had tape decks in our cars and boomboxes. And then CDs came in, with their bright new digital sound, and we bought those. And Homer's Records and Tapes changed with the times and became Homer's Music and Gifts. And then music was online and it was free! Well, stolen maybe, and that was a big blow to record stores and to artists. And then, somehow, people started to remember how things had just sounded better, all along, on vinyl. And you could hold this in your hands, and enjoy looking at the cover, and if you were lucky there would be an inner sleeve with lyrics. And sales of new vinyl LPs went from barely 1 million in 2006 to 49 million in 2023!And Homer's is still here, with new and used vinyl, tapes, CDs, and the gifts.I walked by there on Record Store Day 4/20/2024, and the line stretched around the building! Vinyl is BACK, and Homer's, like it always has been, is the place to get it.

Some of the best selections in the city! Homers is top dog for a reason! Love browsing their many stacks of records and posters! Their Facebook presence is a huge help because you can browse what's being released before you step foot into the store so you can arrive and head for what you want! Staff is always happy to help and very friendly!

In a world where we stream music digitally on devices, Homers is a welcome Oasis for people who remember music from the 'good ole days'. In college, this was a weekly stop for my friends and I looking for the newest CDs for artists we liked. As I got more into the digital era, I have to admit I stopped shopping here for many years. Now, as vinyl makes a comeback, it's fun to browse here for new and used goods. It's a place that I hope never changes- reminiscent of the past and hopefully our future. You will definitely be able to find what you need here, without having to shop online. Consider supporting a local business first.

The more things change the more they stay the same. I remember walking by the Homer's marquee when I was young and it was about the only place in the Old Market I was allowed into. Then the chain expanded during my college years with several locations in Omaha, Bellevue and Lincoln. Obviously the music and retail business hasn't been the same as it was twentyish years ago, but one thing that's still a constant and still a go-to place for music and art in any form is Homer's in the Old Market.I saw the posters in the window, but I knew I was back when I was half way through the door and I smelled the incense. This store is a bit small and is packed with goodies of every form including vinyl, CDs VHS, DVDs, some books, posters and even some lifestyle items... like incense. I wish there was a little more space to things. I was trying to look through some stock, but it was kind of busy and hard to move around others who were going about their business. After about fifteen minutes I decided I should probably move on, which was a bit of a bummer because I'm not in the area as much as I used to be.

Don't let the edgy reviews from suburbanites deter you from a trip to the best place to buy records in Omaha.Homer's is the longest running music store in Omaha for a reason. They've been doing this for decades (50 years as of 2021) and have proven their sustainability, even in the face of a global pandemic or Chads and Karens leaving negative reviews for nonsensical issues. It's a record store in an ancient building in the Old Market; you should expect a bit of clutter. It's not a cookie cutter box store or strip mall bay. If you want that, go buy your vinyl from Walmart or Target - they actually have some fairly decent exclusives these days.I have never felt profiled as a shoplifter by any of the staff and none of them have ever been rude to me. Probably because I didn't come into the store acting like a pretentious prick and expect to be coddled throughout my visit and I treat the employees with respect. And you can find most of the titles online, sure, but I guess I enjoy putting money back into our local economy to ensure small businesses continue to thrive. I buy online, too, but sometimes it's just fun to go digging through the racks to see what you find that piques your interest. That's what record stores are meant for - finding that one title that you may not have thought about in a while or something new you may not have heard of until you see it in the store. The prices are fair, the staff is courteous, the building is old but far from a dive and the record selection is the best you're likely to find in the Omaha metropolitan area. Most people see the charm of the store but some may just be uncomfortable when coming east of 90th and Dodge.

I've been coming to homers for years. When I am back in old market I will stop by and check them out. They have a big selection of used and new records. They also have cds and dvds plus posters and some books. These guys do a good job of keeping the record industry alive in omaha. Their staff if is typically pretty friendly and helpful.

I visited Homers a month ago on the search for some good, used vinyl and I definitely wasn't disappointed. You walk in and there are records everywhere, which was awesome. I shot straight to the used section and begin perusing through the vinyl. I left with a stack of about a dozen records; it was a good day. The used vinyl is priced perfectly as well. The employees are nice as well. The cashier told me about their rewards program, which was free and would save me 10%. Well duh! Of course I would like to join!I am still trying to figure out when I'm going back to Homers. I'm hoping to hit it up this weekend!

Such a great store. A true record store in every aspect. An Omaha staple, the city would be less of these guys weren't there. Great selection, great staff, I've been going here off and on since the 90's. An absolute landmark in the Old Market. A gem.

Not very professional. This was my very first time ordering from Homers. In early November, I placed an online order for 3 copies of an exclusive record that was set to come out at the end of November. I was planning on keeping a copy for myself and giving the others as Christmas gifts. Come early December, I call the store as I had not yet received tracking info. Mike, who is over inventory told me they hadn't received them and needed to contact the distributor to see what was going on. I can tell my phone call made him aware of the fact that a record they should have received had not yet been. I asked if I should call back to follow up or wait until I received an email. He said I can call to follow up or I should receive an email if the order gets canceled. A week and a half passes, still no notification. I call again and speak with Mike and he tells me that they will not be receiving the record. I requested to have my order canceled and my money refunded, of course. I understand that they have no control over what the distributor does, but my biggest gripe was the fact that if I didn't call twice, my money would still be sitting in their account while I wait in the wings. I feel like it shouldn't have to be each customer's responsibility to hold the business accountable. Who knows how many other ppl that ordered the record had to call or are still waiting patiently on a record that will never come. On top of that, there was no empathy shown, sounded like they didn't care at all, not even as little as a "sorry". It may be just a record sale to them, but these were Christmas gifts I was planning to give out. Now the record is sold out at retail price and I have to pay more to get copies, hopefully before the holiday. And the cherry on top, was there was no consolation, such as a discount coupon on a future order to retain me, a first time customer who had a bad experience. Won't be doing business with this establishment again.
