We stopped by The Hitchin Post for lunch today. It's been a while since I've been that way too, but we made an extended day trip today through some of rural Iowa. Warren, Clarke, Madison, Adair, and Dallas Counties... It was on the route. The place hasn't changed much. It still has that old school feel. Same combinations of booths and low tops in the dining room area. It looks like they've updated their ordering and point of sale system.I'll tell you what though... If you don't care about the decor and you just want a good no frills breakfast and comfort food for lunch and dinner... This is a stop for you. I went with the large breaded tenderloin, fries, and a side of chili and cheese sauce. I wanted a chili and cheese tenderloin and that's how I accomplished it. Heather went with the chili dog and cottage cheese as her side. With two lemonades our total was $29 and change before tip. The sides of chili and cheese sauce were about $5, but sometimes you want what you want...and it's worth paying for. The picture doesn't really do the tenderloin justice. If I spread my fingers wide my hand would only cover about 3/4 of it. Heather's dog was a large all beef hot dog smothered in chili and cheese. Everything was cooked perfectly. Our server was new. She'd been there only three days, but she did a great job. She had a more tenured server (or maybe a manager) shadowing her. Both ladies checked on us multiple times and we left to complete the rest of our trip full and happy.

We went here for brunch late Saturday morning. it was 11:40. I was really wanting lunch, but they didn't start serving that until noon, so I ordered the chicken fried steak with hashbrowns with onions on top. it was good. service was good, polite and efficient.

If you are a regular you get great service. Not so for a first timer. No refill on coffee.Breakfast was cold like it had been sitting for ten minutes before being served and it took awhile to get it.Even if breakfast would have been hot it is nothing special. No check back on if everything was ok. Good reviews brought us in.Too bad we did not experience what the others said it was like.

I went to the Hitchin post grill with my family and had nothing but a great time. First off the breakfast food here is flat out amazing. This place is a hidden jem!! I got the pancakes and sausage breakfast pizza. The pizza was so good I over ate and had none left. The pancakes were very light and fluffy with great syrup. This place is old but great and has very cool people around it. The service here was very solid too they didn't mess anything up and were very quick with thing and gave us the perfect amount of time and a good experience!!

We've stopped here before on our way to Texas and always pleased with the food and service. Today was no exception. Hubby had the chicken bacon wrap and I had the sweet chili chicken wrap both with homemade o rings. Everything was delicious. Good bloody Mary's too. Service was excellent and friendly.

Another great meal at the Post! Stopped for lunch this time. Started with perfectly cooked cheese balls, then had a sweet chili wrap with fries. My husband had the Italian sausage sandwich...you can choose between loose meat or patty. We love breakfast here and now lunch too!

Two stars is being generous considering we never got our food after an hour. We had a couple of soft drinks, and that's it. The tables around us were experiencing issues as well, so it wasn't isolated to us. Yes they were busy and understaffed, so I get it. This isn't personal. But people who try to eat here need to be aware when you see reviews that say, "may have to wait a long time for food," that means it could be a normal wait time or it could be over an hour (and still no food). Your call if you want to take the risk.
