The Hi Way Diner in Lincoln is truly one of the best diners I've ever been to, and it holds a special place in my heart. This was a favorite spot of mine during my college days at UNL, so I decided to make the trek back 20 years later--and I'm thrilled to say nothing has changed. Whether you're stopping by after a late night out or enjoying a Sunday morning brunch with family, this place is an absolute gem.I ordered the chicken fried steak with white gravy, and wow--this was something special. The flavor was incredible, with perfectly seasoned breading that stayed intact when cutting into it. Alongside that, I had pancakes and went all out with three kinds of syrup--berry, strawberry, and classic. It was like being a kid again. So dang delicious! And then there's the magic toast. If your dish doesn't already come with it, trust me, you need to order it! I tried the French toast version, and while I have no idea why it's called "magic toast," the name fits--it's insanely delicious. The service was amazing, even during a busy Sunday morning rush. The staff were warm, friendly, and worked with smiles on their faces despite the massive line out the door. Speaking of the line, it moved fast--we were seated and ordering within ten minutes, which is pretty impressive.Hi Way Diner is a place frozen in time in the best way possible. Packed with love, flavor, and nostalgia, it's a must-visit for anyone in Lincoln. I'll definitely be back again!

Was excited about this place when we walked in. Has atmosphere of an old dive restaurant you'd find in a road trip. It seemed popular enough. Staff were friendly enough but the food was average at best. I feel like I'm being generous with an average rating. Definitely enough other options around that I will avoid it in the future. Might be worth it @ 2 in the morning but not a diner to grab brunch at.

I love this place from the small town rustic decor diner feel to the large home style comfort food menu. The staff are super friendly always smiling, everything looks delicious, super fast service also, they were a little busy but very efficient. Cant wait to go try other menu items!

I am guessing this is where the locals go. Appears to be who the other customers are here. Our first time. So the process is walk up and request what one likes to have and special requests seem acceptable. Perfect! So I have asked for burned brown/black pancake and hash browns with 2 eggs over medium. Pecan pie warmed to start. And pie is ok. Pancake is perfectto my specs, as is the hash browns. Maybe a first anywhere. I like everything about this. The best basic breakfast place I have been for while.

Stopped for lunch on our way through Lincoln. Wanted lunch fare in a quick restaurant style way. This was perfect. You order at the counter, find your table, then your meal is delivered to your table. We wanted a soup salad or soup half sandwich type lunch. They didn't have that on the menu, instead we ordered a full club sandwich with a cup of soup on the side plus an extra cup of soup, Wah-lah soup and half a sandwich for two. Sandwich was good. Lots of turkey, crispy bacon, fresh veggies. Soup was good as well, curly egg noodles and chicken. Refillable fountain soda as well so we got one for the road. Loved the old time coolers, ovens, toys, etc that they had all around. Fun retro-vibe spot.

Hi-Way Diner is a "home town" diner in a city. The ambiance is great, like it's something out of the 1950s -- Mayberry-ish. You enter, order your food and drinks, grab your silverware and sit down. No matter how busy they are, the food comes quickly. It's always more than you ordered. I order the no. 4, 2 eggs, breakfast meat, and "magic toast." It comes with a third egg. I like the marble rye for my "magic toast."The wait staff is great. They're friendly and attentive, quick with coffee and water.

My wife and I had a very tasty breakfast at Hi-Way Diner this week. Especially good was the French toast my wife ordered. Service was attentive and friendly, and the prices were a bargain as well. Would recommend whenever you're in Lincoln and have an appetite.
