Genesis Health Clubs - Aksarben

Visiting from California. Genesis Health Clubs - Aksarben is a beautiful club in a nice new development. Impressive interior, welcoming staff and the gym is very clean. Locker rooms have all the amenities and the group x room is a great size and the sound system is good. Took Lauren Paulson Smith's Zumba Fitness which was exceptional. Members were loving it and she really shows her passion when she is leading the class. A wonderful experience. I hope to return again in the future. Ok, bye.

Living in the Aksarben/Midtown area, I feel like we're in a little bit of a gym desert. While this Genesis location is convenient, it's unfortunately outdated and rundown. I went here first back in 2012 when it was the original Aspen, and about 90% of it is still the same. They finally got some new cardio equipment (previously, about half didn't even work) and a few new weight options, but that's about all that's been done. It just feels run down and dirty, including that old low-pile carpet on the gym floor that I'm not sure when it's ever been cleaned. There doesn't seem to be a lot of accountability with their staff. I've seen some of the trainers using it as their playground, many without shoes (which is a club rule to wear them). I've also seen some of the exercises and lifts they've allowed their clients to do, poor form and unsafe. I would not trust many of the trainers here. There have also been multiple times where the person opening wasn't there so I'm up at 5am for nothing. I do want to caveat that some of the front desk staff, a few trainers I know have been there for a while and a few of the group class teachers are nice and know what they're doing, but these other bad actors have left a bad taste in my mouth and make me question the standards that upper management holds. I might consider going back when they renovate the place, but who knows when that will be. Plus I'm sure the price will go way up then since it would be a "premium club." They've noted that it's "on the list" which is their excuse to not fix other things now. There's one sink in the women's locker room that has been unusable for over 2 years. I don't use the showers, but other members have expressed them not working well or even at all some times. We plan to be residents of this area of town for a long time, and I hope to see solid improvements here in the near future so we can enjoy this convenient gym again.

Tyler Stone was amazing in his presentation of the facility. Took the time to walk me through the facility. Extremely friendly and no pressure!!!!!

I really wish this place was good because the location is awesome,but it's not enough. It feels like the only Goal is to add membership. This place needs a deep cleaning badly top to bottom. sad what they want in pay to not care about there members by keeping the place clean. Anyone from this place the works there please stand up and call out the owner and staff. This is a picture of the floor in the sauna room.

The only reason I go to this location is because it's the closest Genesis to where I live. My biggest complaint about this gym is the quality of the exercise equipment. A handful of their treadmills are non functional. Some of them kind of work but usually there's a couple buttons that won't work. Today my treadmill's channel buttons wouldn't work for the tv. I've had treadmills randomly turn off on me mid run- talk about dangerous. I like using the free weights but there's usually not enough space to use them.This location does not have a pool, basketball court or track. I wish the Sprague location was closer to where I lived because I would hands down go to that gym than this one.

Horrible customer service. I signed a contract, 3 days later I requested to cancel as I was not impressed by the gym and had a employment change. I started this request on September 30 and still have no resolution. No answers, just so-so will call you back. Then I call that person because they do not call me. Then I get told to another person will call me back. Still no call so I call them. Get told the same thing again. Still no call. And now I have been charged for the membership that I am not using and do not plan to use. I advise being very careful because they are happy to call daily when they want you to sign up but if there's an issue they don't want to resolve it.

If you're looking for a predatory gym to throw your money at you've found it. I was 6 months into my membership contract and desperately needed to cancel due to financial constraints. $55 dollars a month is make or break for some people. After going in to cancel I was told I had to pay $100 dollars to end my contract early. Don't give your money to this gym. They will kick you when you're already down and take your wallet.

they are merciless in their bad faith business practices. after providing a Dr order to cancel... which was denied and auto withdrawal from them goes on. don't get involved!

I wanted to provide an update. Since the initial review, this location has completely updated their cardio area with all new machines. They're great! In addition, when a machine is broken, it is fixed in a timely manner. Finally, there is no longer an unpleasant sewage smell coming from the womens locker room. I appreciate the attentiveness and dedication from staff!

Great Aksarben Location. Does not have a Pool, but good machines and Great fitness classes.
