Far West

The food is very good, however it is about a 25-30 minute drive and though the salsa and food is good the drive does not elevate it above other Mexican restaurants that are closer.

Even though Lorimor, IA is located about 15 minutes outside of the county seat of Winterset, it has one of the better Mexican food restaurants in the area. As its name implies, it has a very definitive western motive and open dining concept. Parking is on the front street, and is ample. The service was very attentive and intuitive. We shared their chicken tacos, see pic. As you can see these tacos were plentiful. There were tons of chicken strips which were mildly seasoned. They kinda hid the ample amount of chicken under the crisp lettuce and diced tomatoes. There were plenty of sauces on the table for personalized seasoning. The soft taco shells held everything together well.We then shared their Chicken Enchiladas. As you can see in my pic, there are 3 enchiladas. The chicken was tender and very mildly seasoned. The tortillas held up well to the queso (cheese) sauce. The queso sauce was very thick. As you can see it was a white cheese and with minimal flavoring. On the far left is a small bowl with salsa, guac, sour cream and cilantro. These all aid with tuning in the flavor of the queso sauce to your tastes. The refried beans and rice were okay.

This is a very tasty Tex-mex restaurant! Great portion sizes and so much flavor! The taco salad was delicious, made with rice and beans and crisp lettuce the queso was a wonderful addition! The chicken chimichanga was delicious, semi crisped outside and tender flavorful chicken! The service is top notch with friendly staff smiling and quick to keep the glasses full! The setting is with Arizona meets Mexico deco and just beautiful!

This place is very new to the area. My wife, baby daughter and I decided to stop in for dinner on a Saturday night. It's a newer building, was a restaurant/bar/hall previously. Nice and bright inside. All table seating or bar. There was no wait when we got there at about 6. Sat right down. They did not have a high hair, but no biggy. I would classify the menu as more Tex/mex. a large variety! I ordered the Kabobs and my wife ordered the steak fajitas. Wait was reasonable and when the food came it was definitely worth every minute. The portions are HUGE. The flavors weren't spectacular, but what set it apart was the freshness and how the meat was cooked. Most of the time you go to a Mexican place and order Carneasada or Steak and you get WELL done smalls trips of tough skirt steak. My kabob was perfectly medium rare and my wife's fajitas were as well. Plus the strips were thick and tender with a nice grilled char on the outside. It would be like steak you cooked on your own grill. Service was great and the price was extremely reasonable. That is why the is place deserves 5 stars.

Fantastic Mexican food!! Jackie was our server and provided extraordinary service. I had steak fajitas and my wife had chicken Diablo both were Excellent!! We will be back, very much worth the drive from Creston!!

This place is fantastic. The portions are huge, the prices are very low and the flavor of the food is to die for. I will be making this place a regular staple for me and my family. I know this place is off the beaten path but OMG is it ever so good. I would recommend this restaurant to all my friends. Seek out this place enjoy the ride and the great food and atmosphere. Tell them I sent you I might get a free Margarita next time I'm there lol. Seriously this place is great.

What a great place! I found out the owner is from Des Moines. I feel the food is as good or better than most I've had in DM. The place is large. Lots of room to isolate from covid. Very nice bar and dance area. The wait staff is very friendly and fast. Restrooms very clean. Staff is masked up and follows covid procedures well. Great prices as well. Checks all the boxes for me. I'll be back! Also, They will gladly deliver curbside pickup and accept all forms of payment; cash, card, and check.

We were really very happy with with the food, the service and the cleanliness. The portions were large so we shared a burrito, had kesso with salsa for the chips And had a couple of drinks. We were exceptionally pleased with everything. Our server was very pleasant and helpful. Definitely plan to make this a go to place for Mexican food.They do have Other foods on the menu, but we have not tried those yet.

We went to Far West tonight and the service and food were amazing!! we Went about a month ago and didn't have the same experience but Far West staff made up for that tonight!! Definitely glad we gave them a second chance!!!
