Whenever I am meeting one of my friends near her office for lunch, we typically stop here because theres a variety of healthy and not so healthy options. Across the city, I think all Don and Millies are great, but this one is really great with their chicken. I've never had a bad chicken on my salad here. Whether its grilled or breaded. I HAVE to have to get onion rings and fries combo is the perfect portion of their super thin and crispy rings, and i love their shoe string fries.

After trying to find what's something unique to eat in Nebraska, I found an article about the Cheese Frenchee (deep-fried grilled cheese sandwich). This was the place to get them. https://www.foodandwine.com/travel/cheese-frencheeWe ordered at the drive thru to take it back to our hotel. I was only about to eat one of the four pieces. It was just not good to me. Maybe it's the oil that was used to deep fry it. I tossed most of it away...

We went to Don & Millie's to try another regional specialty on our road trip - the Cheese Frenchie. When we walked into this fast food establishment, we found tons of cars in the drive-thru and plenty of people eating in - I suppose healthcare workers in the nearby hospital getting a quick dinner? At any rate, the interior has a well-worn, very 90's fast food restaurant decor and amenities. It looks like this small chain hasn't modernized at all, giving it a certain charm, yet making it a bit dingy. Luckily the order line inside wasn't very long and we ended up getting a couple of items off the menu that seemed interesting.Cheese Frenchie ($6.89) - This is certainly an intriguing sandwich. It's a basic grilled cheese, but cut into fourths, then breaded and fried. There's a light crisp on the exterior breading but it's not oily, and the soft white bread texture on the interior makes it easy to eat. American cheese oozes out with every bite. The breading on the outside of the sandwich serves to seal all of the cheese inside so it gets distributed pretty evenly and barely any escapes into the wrapper. In terms of taste - honestly it's pretty normal for a grilled cheese. Whatever spices they use to get that distinct orange color on the exterior doesn't really add any flavor. While certainly interesting to try, I'm not sure I would take this over a regular grilled cheese. (3/5)Onions Rings, Large ($4.49) - These are homemade onion rings that honestly might be worse than commercial ones. The breading is half way flaked off by the time the rings get to you. They aren't overly salted - in fact, I'd say the onion rings as a whole are quite under seasoned - so much so that you have to dip in ranch or ketchup to make them palatable. Each ring has to be picked up relatively gingerly to prevent the rest of the breading from disintegrating in front of you. The rings are barely drained of oil when served - so much oil pools that by the time you finish, the bottom of the paper tray is transparent from the grease. Overall I found these onion rings to be pretty disappointing, although I'm not sure if this is a recipe issue or an issue with the cook. (2/5)Baked Potato Soup ($4.69) - I found this soup to be quite good. It's an exceptionally thick and creamy soup with a good amount of extremely tender sliced potatoes mixed in, then topped with a large amount of bacon bits, cheese, and scallions. The cheese melts into the soup and gives a stretchy quality even better than that of pizza, with thin gossamer strands of cheese hanging off of the spoon with every dip. There are no potato skins to mar the creamy and rich texture. (4/5)Overall I found the food to just be okay. I'd say it's worth a try if you're in town. It's just not somewhere that I would visit again.Bathrooms - Larger fast-food style bathrooms

Looked up iconic NE foods and discovered the Cheese Frenchee. Don and Millie's was the only place that had it so I stopped in and tried 1 of the triangles before hitting the road again. It was extremely good fresh but by the time I made it to the highway and started eating again it wasn't very good. If you're coming for the Frenchee eat it fresh. The rest of the food was just ok. Service was good. Ambiance was typical fast food.

Don & Millie's was started in Omaha, and has several locations in the Omaha/Lincoln area. It's fast food, it was started in 1989, and at that time it was better than standard fast food options. Now there are places like 5 Guys and Culver's with this kind of food. Those places have ice cream, Don & Millie's has margaritas, so you can choose which thing you want more. The food is good for what it is, definitely on the greasy side. I had heard about the cheese frenchie for years but that sounded like it would be greasy and disappointing. Well, that was true. So much oil and so little cheese. Oh well. Their onion rings are awesome. My father-in-law Don always loved the Don burgers. My iced tea was not good, hopefully better care is given to other products. They have the baked potato soup on their Lenten menu. My daughter's came with bacon on it, she might have ordered it as a loaded baked potato soup though. It would be good for staff to clarify this. We don't observe Lent, but we know that a lot of people do, and this was on a Friday during it.

I probably don't come here often enough for as close as it is to my workplace. That said I got the Southwest Chicken salad today. The line for the drive thru was long (almost out onto Farnam Street!) so I just ran inside and placed my order to go at the counter. I see now that like many restaurants these days, one can order online in advance and then swoop in to pick it up. I think I'll do that next time. The staff was quick and friendly and also generous with the condiments like salsa and chipotle ranch. For $7.99 I had a good lunch that was healthy and filling. I didn't get one today but they have really good cookies, too!

This place simply disappoints me. As soon as I walk in I know something is wrong. I order the crispy chicken sandwhich combo, no bacon or tomato's. I receive my food 5 minutes later. I receive a GRILLED CHICKEN SANDWHICH with BACON. So I send my food back to get my order correct. 5 minutes later I get my food, exactly what I ordered. I get fries and my crispy chicken sandwich. It seems fine until I take a bite, which it tastes like cardboard. I don't eat anymore because I lose my appetite. This is why to never come here.

I ordered a foot long chili dog and thought cheese came with the meal since the picture showed it. Instead of my combo costing $10.59 plus tax, it winded up being $12.55. NEVER AGAIN!!!! Stop with the false advertising!
