I stayed in the Fireside Room, which is located in the mansion. Prior to my arrival, I called Barbara, the owner, & notified her that I would be arriving late. I was able to check in late with no issues. Barbara was kind enough to offer me directions to her B&B. Upon my arrival, the check-in went smoothly. The room I stayed in has a window A/C unit, & was cool. Barbara has a collection of menus from various restaurants around town. Several restaurants are within walking distance from the mansion. The Fireside Room is very spacious. The bed was comfortable. During my entire stay, it was very quiet, which I liked. Barbara arranged breakfast for me the following morning. Juice, water, coffee, thick cut & crispy bacon, an apple streusel muffin, & eggs with tomatoes & herbs. Everything was delicious! I enjoyed my stay at the bed & breakfast. The mansion has a lot of charm, & the garden is absolutely beautiful. Barbara is a gracious host, & I hope to stay at the mansion again!

We found Chestnut Charm through a booking agency and didn't know anything about it. The whole experience was a pleasure. We had to call for a late arrival and the owner, Barbara graciously accommodated us, giving us directions that saved us time.We stayed four nights and every morning Barbara served us a different and delicious homemade breakfast, with an egg dish, Iowa raised bacon, and fabulous homemade muffin. Many of the ingredients were grown in her own garden. The mansion has been lovingly renovated, and much of the work, notably stained glass windows, was done by Barbara herself. For dinners, Barbara made excellent recommendations, the best one being The Redwood Steak House in Anita, a few miles east. The room was spacious, very clean, and decorated beautifully. We saw deer and a family of bunnies on the grounds. We enjoyed chatting with Barbara, who gave us many good ideas about what to see and do in the area. She's an engaging and welcoming host.

Right off of 80 and smack dab between Des Moines and Omaha. After a long drive, it feels like coming home. I woke up refreshed and was well looked after.Breakfast served with ingredients fresh from the garden. Lots of plants in the sun room. Very well maintained antique solid oak furniture and wall papers to appreciate.I believe there is wifi, but I did not need it.

My sister and I spent one night here in July 2018. Yes, I am late in doing my review! This B&B isn't as slick as others I have stayed in (hence, one star off) but the owner's heart is certainly in the right place. Barbara was kind and very helpful in resolving a car issue we had. The breakfast was generous and nice in all aspects. This is a good place to stay if you are looking for something off the beaten path, quiet, and reasonably priced.

After a mix-up at another hotel down the street, I called Barbara and asked if she had any rooms available for the night. I've never been so glad a hotel messed up my reservation, because staying at this Bed and Breakfast was fabulous! The old mansion is charming and the breakfast was amazing. I'd definitely stay here again in a heartbeat.

Very charming old mansion type house.Rooms very clean and comfortable. Host was very gracious and makes a great breakfast. Much better than staying at any local hotel. No tv or Internet which was ok because it was nice to not have the usual distractions and just relax reading a good book. Will return when in the area again.

Very charming place to stay. Barbara definitely knows great hospitality. I had never been in a home like that and it was wonderful to see. The particular room I stayed, did not have a shower but instead a bath. It was fine for me, but just to let everyone know what to expect in some rooms. There was no T.V. either, and that is because she does respect the quite place for all her guest. So be sure to bring a book or have your phone to play on-wasn't a problem for me. Everything was very well put together, and I wish it was my house! The breakfast was DELICIOUS! to say the least. It was so fresh. She made me a frittata-with ham and asparagus from her garden, as well as a strawberry rhubarb muffin-rhubarb from her garden, with freshly squeezed orange juice. It was great! She also shared her company with me for breakfast since I was here solo on a work trip. We had a great conversation and found out she is the Jane of All trades! I hope to be back to this small cute town and stay here again!
