Bluebird Nursery & Gardenland Store

Gardenland carries many plants that are not readily available in conventional garden centers, including many native plants adapted to the northern Great Plains and front range of the Rockies. Some unusually shrubs and trees as well as herbaceous plants. If you need a lot of plants of one kind for your landscape, you can get smaller sizes here (3-4" pots) and save a lot of money over quarts found at other nurseries, which basically buy from Bluebird wholesale and then grow them into quart size containers. For example, I needed a lot of ground cover Veronica and they were able to provide them at a reasonable price. Summer sales in August help also. The people are friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. It is worth a drive through the rolling hills of eastern Nebraska to buy from Gardenland. Only about 2 hours from Lincoln/Omaha so makes a nice day trip.

Bluebird Nursery is primarily a wholesale grower of plants, but they have a Gardenland store open to the public, with exotic plants not normally seen in most nurseries. On this last visit I picked up some dwarf mint, patchouli, and a Disco Belle hibiscus which I've been looking for for ages. The day they were there, they were even giving away some plants for free. I've gotten plants from Gardenland since they were simply the Bluebird nursery store. Bluebird is now a wholesale only and the retail store became Gardenland. I and my husband make an annual spring trip down there on our motorcycle (It's surprising how much can be packed safely on a goldwing). The selection and health of the plants is absolutely great. I can find things there that I can't anywhere else. Selections include native species akin to Highcountry Gardens. Very very satisfied.
