If you know me, you know that I am frequently asked what to do, where to go, best places to eat and drink, and more often than not, I am suggesting Blackstone District as a whole. There is really something for everyone in this neighborhood. From (obviously) the best ice cream shop in the US (on Yelp) to a cuisine for everyones palat. Pizza, Mexica, Asian Fusion, American/Sandwiches, brunch, sunday funday, cheeseburgers, etc. Literally from 42nd to 38th and Farnam, there is something to do, see, or taste. Of course you've got great hotels and apartments, and it's a narrow enough street it feels like a main drag in a small town. So many great local spots, and activities. From bowling, to the foodhalls, to staying at the Cottonwood. This is one of my favorite neighborhoods to hang in.

One of the newer trendy areas of Omaha with a lot of restaurants, bars, and shops. It was nice to see this area revitalized into a bustling destination. I can't say I've been here at night but I have enjoyed many a good lunch. There has been some turnover in businesses the past couple of years but Coneflower, Mula, Noli's, and Archetype have been mainstays. My favorite new place is Get Real Sandwiches! Lots of new apartments around, too. The Blackstone is in Midtown about halfway between Dundee and the Old Market. Very close to Nebraska Medicine and Clarkson College. Parking can be dicey at peak times.

Not to be confused with Treadstone (Bourne), Lovestoned (Timberlake), Kidneystone (ow), Rollingstone (Moves like...), or Alicia Silverstone (Liv Tyler), this is a great little area.Definitely the hipster capital of Omaha and one of the most hipster neighbourhoods in the whole Midwest and Plains region. Lots of people in beards and flannel and tweed caps from northern England and lots of liberal attitudes in a really nice area with expensive prices and trendy foods and craft beers and pale ales. Not my kind of region, but my kind of area within a region - not cool around Nebraska, politically especially, but I'm glad that Blackstone exists and I wish that everyone was as liberal as this neighbourhood.

One of my favorite parts of Omaha, the Blackstone District has the old feel of a historic area but a new feel with up and coming local businesses. From places like Archetype (coffee), Mula (Mexican), Scriptown (microbrewery), Sullivan's, Night Owl and Corkscrew (wine & small plates) to Pulp (cool gifts), Kleveland Clothing (boutique), Bouquet (flowers) and Surly Chap (barber shop) it has much to offer in Midtown. With more plans and revitalization on the way at points east of 39th street in the near future, Blackstone will become even better!

There's a lot to be said about this burgeoning neighborhood. After decades of suburban flight, pushing a flood of cars from downtown to the suburbs along Farnam Street, the Blackstone neighborhood slowly faded into a nondescript area of midtown Omaha vaguely keeping its identity solely thanks to its namesake building. But something happened a few years ago when small business owners in the neighborhood came together with a vision to bring the Farnam Street corridor from Midtown Crossing to the medical center into a destination for the entire city. Street festivals were held. Meetings with city planners were had. Eventually, Farnam was made a two way street from 30th all the way to 42nd, making the Blackstone District a place to stop, walk about and enjoy one of the many new and unique local businesses that now call the area home (with many more sure to come in the next couple of years). And this is just the beginning. Expect more empty lots to be turned into mixed-use retail and apartments. Expect top notch transportation to and from the area when the BRT (and possibly light rail) begin serving Blackstone in a few years. This gives hope to other historic corridors of Omaha that are blighted and boarded up. Caring for the core of a city is what helps establish and promote a shared identity among its citizens -- something that's vital making people who call Omaha home more proud than ever of our fair city on the plains.

The original West Omaha is one my favorite spots for food and drinks in Omaha. It offers up great food from restaurants (Stirnella, Nite Owl, Earlybird, and Mula), great adult beverages (Scriptown Brewery, Crescent Moon, Blackstone Social, and Corkscrew) not to mention the best ice cream in town (Coneflower) and the best artisan donuts (Bob's). It's not much of a retail destination but that's ok. It makes up for it charm with a mixture of old and new buildings. If you need to walk off the food and/or drinks, take a stroll through the adjacent neighborhood and you will see some amazing homes.

I will start with 4 stars. This area of town is an area that I'm well familiar with. If you have you lived in the confines of this area I was seeing the dilapidation and the transformation. I am really excited for what it's going to be from where was. I am sure rent in the local Apartments is going to be trying to find more expensive than Denver should be. let alone Omaha. I think right now the city is just rushing to fill with new businesses and I hope many of them have long term business plans. I can't wait for the time or midtown and downtown and Blackstone are connected. each area offers something so diverse. I really like coming to this part of town for the fun activities that are available. soon I will see you here. The city had done a renovation to what is now Stinson park and made that a much better place than the old AkSarBen area that it once was. The same can be expected for Blackstone!

I can't say enough great things about the Blackstone District! It runs along Farnam Street from 42nd to about 35th. The amount of development in this area over the past year and a half has been HUGE! With the addition of places like Archetype, Scriptown, Noli's, Mula, Nite Owl, and Farnam House you are never far from a great place to eat or drink. In terms of shopping, Kleveland Clothing is awesome! If you are looking for a bike or for bike repair, the folks at Dundee Cycle are outstanding! Take a break from Downtown and Benson, and come hang out in Blackstone! It doesn't get much better than this in Omaha!
