Upon the recommendation of friend, I signed up for a personal trainer at Amburst YMCA in October 2023. My goal was to lose ten pounds and see if I could alleviate the pain in my knees because they were aching continuously. The trainer, Colin Gable, took his time with an interview and listened to what I wanted to achieve. During my hour-long sessions twice a week, he explains each exercise and always demonstrates them first. He adjust the machines, steps and other equipment exactly for my smaller frame. He is punctual and never leaves me during a session. He keeps accurate records so I know where we are on this journey to be the best version of me. On St Patrick 's Day of 2024, I did the 144 steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, famous for"Rocky Steps" . In early May, 2024, I had my annual physical. I had lost 18 pounds and my BMI had decreased over 3 points. My knees seldom hurt and I haven't worn a kneebrace since last November. I moved to Omaha without knowing anyone and I was unfamiliar with the city. Then I discovered Ambrust YMCA in my neighborhood. I feel a sense of belonging and my trainer has made it successful and fun. The money, time and energy I have invested in this venture has been life changing for the better.

We have been struggling with swim classes for about 6 months now, and it is impossible to get ahold of the aquatics director. We had swim instructors that weren't even getting our daughter's head wet during class (at age 5, and she does put her head under) starting and ending class 10 min late or early, making a normally 25 minute class only 15 minutes, and we switched to private lessons in an attempt to get our daughter more time in the pool. The last straw for us was when we got our family ready for swim class (not an easy task with 2 small kids) drove to our private swim lessons during open swim and when we got there we found out the pool had been closed multiple hours for maintenence and no one called us our even their poor teenage swim instructor. I called the Aquatics director to find out what we can do to make this not happen again, and schedule a makeup class since these classes are not inexpensive. Two voicemail and 5 days later I have not received a return call back. This poor experience was our final straw to discontinue our Y membership and look elsewhere.

We've been members at the Y for a few months now and this location is nearest to our house, so we come here regularly (probably not regularly enough though!). There are quite a few treadmills, ellipticals, and other machines. So, if you are looking to get some cardio in, you can usually find a machine to get it done. The problem lies in the weight area. There are only two dedicated benches, also one incline and one decline bench. So, those are sometimes hard to get to and I find myself keeping my eyes open and almost sprinting when one opens up. It's unfortunate and they could use a couple of more multi-purpose benches that allow for all three to happen. As others have said, it's busy and if you don't time your visit right, you could end up not being able to use the equipment you want. Pro tip: do not go on Saturday morning before 11 am. Yikes. You'll just have to find times that work best for your schedule and that aren't too busy. I find weeknights after 7 pm aren't too bad but do vary a bit. The basketball court here is always overrun with kids, so I've not been on them too much and we haven't yet used the pool. There are only three dedicated lap lanes, so not much help for those just wanting to get in some laps. There are also classes which seem to be well attended. All told, it's fine for what it is. For us, it's a half mile from the house and the price is reasonable. So, it works. But, just bring your patience.

We come here for open swim and my kids really enjoy the slide and the mushroom in the pool. It's nice because I don't have to get in with them and I can hang out with my book on the sidelines (kids 10/7). The lifeguards are kind with the kids and knowledgeable. The woman's locker room could use an upgrade but overall I like the facility.

Top.notch facility. Pool, daycare, bball, aerobics etc. all in a new layout and updated building. As a member you enjoy some perks of kid care, and discounted rates; including private swim lessons. We typically use private swim lessons in early Spring, to get the kids acclimated for summer swim pools.

I am so happy to have given this YMCA a fighting chance after my dreadful experience at the Sarpy County facility!I hadn't been to the Y there in 3 years! I was told then that we could freeze our account and just swipe our card to reactivate it. So, as any reasonable person might do, I asked "Are you sure?! Anytime?!" I was told "Absolutely! Anytime." Well, turns out that wasn't true. Not a whimper of sympathy from the gal at the counter who had more the demeanor of an Army sergeant than a front desk greeter/receptionist. I filled out paperwork and she informed me it would be over $100 to join today. This would be for me and my husband. No mention of discounts or specials or anything. I just took my paper and left. Turns out the pool, which I was going to use, was closed anyway. Some complaints were online about the frequency of them closing their pool.I was to meet a friend there for a class. She and I pondered where to go from there and decided to go to Armbruster Family YMCA and I'm so glad we did! Andrea was stellar at customer service, working with me on discounts and welcoming us to this clean, warm and well maintained facility! Now I'm happy to be back at the Y, this Y. Even though it is so much further than Sarpy, I found it well worth the drive!

2/8/23-11:30amOn the morning of 2/8/23 I took my two daughters to the YMCA, my youngest i was taking swimming so i took my older daughter (2Y 10M) to child watch. Immediately upon checking her in explained to both workers that she had been potty training for 3 weeks she has not had any accidents but will come and tell you when she needs to go to the potty and may ask for help. I explained she was wearing underwear and not a diaper and that i brought extra clothes for her just in case and would have my phone on loud by the pool if there was any problems. We were gone for approximately 30-45 minutes. When i was returning I could see her through the front window banging on the half door of one of the smaller enclosed rooms and she was alone banging on the door. Both employees were standing across the room talking together with their backs turned to her they were not responding or acknowledging to her. I walked in and immediately my daughter looked and me and said "mommy please help me, help me mommy im stuck". As soon as the door closed behind me the child watch employees looked up and said oh you're back she is in there coloring. I said to them "No, she is not she is standing here banging on the door asking to be let out" The response i received was a joke towards my daughter of "ohh next time honey we will have to leave the door open you're so small we could not even see you in there". Please note the other kids left in child watch were older and the child watch employees children and they were all running free in the main portion of the room my child was the only one locked up and admittedly where they could not see her. My daughter was then let out of the room and let into the entry way with me, the employee asked if i wanted to take her potty before i went home and immediately my daughter came up and said "mommy, peed the pants" she was in black pants and i looked down and she was completely soaked in urine. Upon changing her clothes i discovered not only were her pants wet but she was completely soaked down to her socks and inside of her tennis shoes, the urine was cold, so i am concerned for multiple reasons. Not only was my daughter locked up with no supervision for an unknown amount of time but she was also unsupervised with choking hazards and soaked and sitting in her own urine. She had no way to ask for help or to even have a chance to tell them she needed to go potty because she was locked away and was being ignored when trying to get out. (3 managers told) I spoke to Rebecca the CEO of the greater Omaha YMCAs and the only information i was provided in the end was that the facility would undergo additional trainings and rules that should have been enforced would be.She told me they would have disciplinary actions but they are still going to be working in child watch. I was told that i cannot have the employees names that were working child watch and "taking care" of my daughter as they will not share personnel information. They had no cameras- I confirmed with Rebecca to find out how long my daughter was locked in there alone and she said the employees account of the situation was that there was no escalation until mom came in the room.Except my daughter and i never escalated then situation. So long story short, from what i have been told these women got what seems like a slap on the wrist after lying about what happened to their supervisors and are continuing to work in the child watch. So just beware trusting your kids at this location. There are a few employees that work child watch at this location that are amazing but these two women were negligent and obviously did not care that they were as they went right ahead and lie and tried to place blame on me and my daughter. I would not recommend. I am highly disappointed from the situation that occurred as well as the repercussions for what happened. I am thankful every day that it was not worse as it could have been a lot worse.
