I have been a student at this dojo for over two years. I had studied aikido as a teenager, but after relocating I struggled to find a new place to train. I was looking for a dojo that was supportive, rigorous, and full of friendly people, and which was not too hard (machismo ahoy) or too soft (I don't want to push people over from five feet away with the power of my ki). I picked Aikido of Nebraska at random, walked in, and realized very quickly that I had found exactly what I had been looking for. I love the community I've found at the dojo, and enjoy my training immensely.

Aikido of Nebraska is the best. I have studied there for several years and can say that the chief instructor, Todd Roberts, is an excellent, knowledgeable, and patient teacher who encourages students to learn about and improve themselves as they learn about and improve their aikido techniques. Classes here are fun and challenging, and I always walk away having learned something new. Training aikido here is rewarding, The people at Aikido of Nebraska are as warm, welcoming, supportive, and without ego as Sensei Roberts is. (This part is really important for me -- I'm a woman and I cannot say the same about other martial arts studios I have tried.) The studio is clean and bright, safety is a priority, and is a great value. Lincoln is fortunate to have this hidden gem.

To begin, I have been an Aiki-Deshi (student of Aikido) since 2002 with the Aikido Agatsu Dojos in NJ under the guidance of Richard & Kathy Crane Sensei. Both hold the rank of RokuDan (6th degree black belt) and for 35 years have been the Dojo-Cho(Chief instructors) on a full time basis. Our dojo is dedicated to the strict practice of Traditional Aikido and the principles of the founder, O'Sensei Ueshiba Morihei. Todd Roberts Sensei, the owner of Aikido of Nebraska, is a direct student of Crane Sensei's. I say all of this to emphasize the pedigree or quality of teaching available in this dojo. Todd Sensei possesses a depth of knowledge and dedication to continuing to teach Aikido in the true tradition the founder intended for you to learn. In April of 2011, myself and 2 other Aiki-Deshi traveled to Aikido of Nebraska and had the pleasure of training with Todd Sensei. We found the students to be very welcoming, enthusiastic, wonderful training partners! It was exciting to see so many new students anxious to learn the correct methods of basic technique and strong interest in Aiki weapons training! We miss training with Todd Sensei back in NJ, but our loss is truly Lincoln, Nebraska's gain!If you're interested in studying traditional Aikido, you will find this dojo the best destination for learning the true way Aikido was meant to be taught!Sincerest regards, Elizabeth PellerinShodan

There is a saying; every journey begins with a single step. That first step most always comes with a little trepidation. I started my Aikido journey few months ago and there has been absolutely no regret. If you are looking for a school that will welcome you regardless of age, skill or ability your journey needs to begin at Aikido of Nebraska. If it is your first class or your first time meeting Sensei Roberts, you cannot help to notice that his dedication, passion and commitment to the traditional style of martial arts is unparalleled. I have studied karate before at another local dojo/school and without a doubt I made the right decision to begin training in the art of Aikido and an even smarter decision choosing to learn from Sensei Roberts. I felt welcomed the first time I came to class. I attribute this to Sensei Roberts and the environment he has created with his students. Every student helps one another with the common goal to succeed and continue to learn and grow in their study of Aikido. It truly is a unique experience which I never experienced before. You instantly get the feeling that Sensei Roberts is doing this for his love of the martial arts and not for the love of money. I encourage anyone reading this, if you are considering training in the martial arts, please do yourself a favor and begin your journey by taking that first step in our dojo

I became interested in Aikido many years ago when I visited a dojo of a friend of mine in Ohio. We were going to go out to dinner and he told me that he couldn't until after he instructed a youth class. I, therefore, went with my friend to watch him instruct and fell in love with this defensive art.It was many years after this first encounter with Aikido before it was available in Lincoln, NE. My wife knew that I wanted to learn this art and by pure chance drove by the new dojo and immediately came home and told me about it. I had my friend call and talk to Sensei Roberts to find out if this would be the school for me. My friend immediately recommended Aikido of Nebraska.I have been at Aikido of Nebraska since the beginning and I am a better person for having joined. The instruction is fantastic and the culture of the dojo is very open and giving. This is a testament to Sensei Roberts dedication to the traditional values of the art. Thank you Sensei
