I have driven past this place for the last 11 years on my way down Leavenworth to the Old Market. I have read rave reviews in the newspaper, knew alot of restaurants get their seafood here and everyone said it was great. We finally went. Of course, it is a seafood shop,so I should have expected the overwhelming smell of seafood. Since we had heard rave reviews, we expected cases of beautiful fish. THe selection was truly underwhelming and very disappointing. Another thing I was surprised about was that the counter person didn't speak English. Obviously something else I wasn't expecting. My vision including salty old men (like old meatcutters) who knew alot about fish and could advise me. THere was another woman who could speak with us. We picked two different fish, which we grilled, and were excellent. I had their smoked salmon about 6 years ago at a party (my first smoked salmon experience that didn't come from a freezer sealed bag) and loved it. We got more and did a side by side comparison with Wohlners smoked salmon. For our palates, Wohlners won hands down. The fish is good, which I guess bottom line is most important. Atmosphere and selection left something to be desired. And it would help if you speak spanish.

My last trip to Absolutely Fresh displayed not-so-fresh fish that was way overpriced. In the past I have enjoyed shopping for fish here. The walleye was priced at 28.00 a pound. A day later, I saw fresh walleye being sold for 17.99 a pound.

My wife and I are from Miami, Florida so we know good seafood. I understand that this is the midwest, howevet, the prices were a little high. In addition, when I got home, I had to throw out half the mussels because they were not fresh. Over half of them were open. If you can not guarantee fresh shellfish, then I would not sell it. The local fish was fine.

Do not purchase frozen crab legs here. They are not weighed properly and they over-charge you tremendously! I purchased an $80 bundle of kings and it was pathetic once defrosted. There is no way in hell it weighed over two pounds, yet the tag said 2.64. They appeared too small to be considered kings. Not only that, they were disgusting. They were the split variety and the meat was dry and flavorless. This is totally unacceptable when you are charging $29.99 per pound, what an outrageous price, you can go get served crab legs at a five-star steakhouse for that . I haven't had any issues with fish here but I will certainly be getting my crab legs elsewhere (Sam's Club).

Read my review on Shuck's they are attached to it. Wonderfully fresh. The fish monger even told me he would ship anything I wanted to California. How cool is. That?

Chef Claude was awesome. I called in for advice and ended up going with his idea instead of mine. A party platter of crab claws for Christmas Eve! 1 pound of Snow Crab and 1 pound of Jonah Crab claws. I was a little nervous about the Jonah claws since I've never had them. Wow. Spot on. Super sweet, juicy and oh so yummy. Thanks Chef! We'll be back! Probably 3 pounds of Jonah next time and skip the Snow Crab.

This place is a total scam paid $80.00 for two pounds of lobster meat that tasted like two week old tilapia. Nothing fresh about the lobster here.

my wife and i just had lunch at the 120 street location.my wife ordered the crabcake sandwich and i ordered the lobster poboy, both left a lot to be desired.the crabcake was very salty, the lobster roll was extremely dissapointing.the meat was claw not tail or body and looked more like a lobster salad than a poboy,no chunks of lobster, ice cold and served on what looked like a kids portion roll.very bland and flavorless and for17$ way to overpriced for a sandwich.the wait staff never bothered to ask us about our meal until we were finished and she did not seem too interested in our comments when she asked how everything was.the best part of our 40$ lunch was leaving,we will not be back.
