Fresh veggies and fruit department
Jesus freakin' LOVES Whittaker's, man. (Or maybe not. I dunno.)
The best buys here? In the produce section. Damn skippy.
5/$1
Check out all the Hispanic spice selections!
Shabby, kinda creepy? Yeah. But functional and (relatively) clean.
Expect boxes in the aisles. (Seriously.)

I go to Whittakers for the cheap prices. It is a no frills store and definitely could use a new coat of paint and maybe a good hard cleaning. The have an isle of really discounted food, that are frozen. These items are out of date but I have never gotten anything bad from that isle. They have a lot of people working the meat department because they are so busy selling fresh meat. Normally they have certain fresh veggie and fruit sharply discounted. The cashiers are nice and do speak English. Parking is easy however not sure I would go late at night by myself.

Been to Whittaker's Foods a few times, mostly in need of urgent cash after hours. They are able to cash checks after hours at a high fees, but it is one of the few places that I know that would do this kind of service. I have not used this service for a while so not sure if they are still doing this. Pretty good market for cost also, except "rugged" but it's catering toward long time locals so people that go here are the ones that have been here previously.

My family has been going here for over 20 years and we know the owner and people that work here. It didn't use to be so sketchy but unfortunately it has gone this way. Regardless, one would find hidden gems here. For example, eggs are fresh from their farms and are always at least 50 cents cheaper than supermarkets. I have never witnessed a crime here and you never have to wait longer than a minute in the check out line. Meats and produce are fresh from the farms and are super cheap and fresh. Their oranges here are the sweetest and tangiest. If you don't see something in stock, chances are you can ask someone and they'll bring it out for you. I've experience great service here and very quick service. To be honest, it's not any more dangerous than any other grocery store you can go to in the city and you do find great deals.

Let me preface this review by saying... of course Whittaker's isn't a Whole Foods or Uptown Grocery, so my 4 stars aren't in comparison to those types of stores. My 4 stars are based upon what I expected (which was complete disappointment) and what I actually experienced.First, by no means is Whittaker's a very clean store, but it's not that bad. I'm sure the people that have driven by have thought the grocery store was sketchy, but I didn't get that vibe at all when I was shopping here. It's a tad small (about the size of an Aldi), but there is a pretty decent selection of items, including some organic options that were WAY cheaper than some of the other grocery stores I've shopped at. Whittaker's is very fairly priced, and honestly, cheaper on most items than other stores around town.I won't make Whittaker's my go-to grocery store, but I certainly will return and I would recommend those who want to try a different grocery store to give this place a look.

Here as a visitor but man, if I lived here, I'd be here every week! Their meats in the frozen mark down section were so low I bought up for weeks! And can you belief huge heads of romaine for .17?!? Yes 17 CENTS! Hummus in Big container for .50-I'm not kidding people this place, though "sketchy" is a GEM!
