It's fitting that while searching for this restaurant on Yelp I typed in "Tom's Barf" instead of "Tom's Barb(eque)"... because it accurately depicts the state of your stomach after you've eaten there. Maybe I just went there on a bad day? The service was good and the persons behind the counter were nice and cordial. There was a steady stream of customers (I assume all locals) so perhaps people do like it? I can't say that I do, however. We ordered a rib sandwich and the person asked if we'd like it on a bun? Ummm... without a bun, wouldn't it just be ribs? Add to that the rib meat was still on the bone and we had to manually pull it off and add it to the sandwich. It was very tough and full of bone and gristle too. Their coleslaw was equally perplexing in that it was just shredded cabbage with a dollop of mayonnaise on top. Umm... I don't think that's how you make coleslaw? And it wasn't even mixed in?? I got a shredded beef sandwich and seriously it tasted like some sort of dog food. "Gruel" would be a more accurate statement. Again, let's temper my review a little because a lot of people seemed to like this stuff. Oh, and a final note... their barbeque sauce was extremely watered down. Like, literally water. I'm not sure why... I can only assume that times are tough on ole Tom and he has to resort to adding water to his barbeque sauce. I mean, really, BBQ sauce is what makes or breaks a BBQ restaurant... why then would you skimp out on this essential item? It was really runny and not very flavorful at all. I didn't get food poisoning but I'm sure I probably beat the odds.

I've been going here for years -- for good food at a fair price, friendly service, and down-home atmosphere. It's NOT a "brass and plants" kind of place. You go there for the FOOD, not the decor. Order at a cafeteria-style line; food is served on a lunch tray.I usually get the chopped beef sandwich, slaw, and baked beans. Sauce comes in hot and mild and, as Booker says, "It's all in the sauce."TRY THE SWEET POTATO PIE!!

This is one of OKC's hidden BBQ gems. The hot links are great, the ribs are great, the brisket is great, and do not leave without some sweet potato pie. I love their hot BBQ sauce - just enough kick. This is real BBQ, not the national chain stuff that is so generic you can barely call it BBQ. It isn't the fanciest building or the nicest decor. But when I go for BBQ, I'm looking for great food - and Tom's has it.

I recently revisited Tom's and was as usual very satisfied. I was brousing and found that another review for Tom's was less than glowing. I couldn't disagree more. A rib sandwich is not even on the menu. Tom's is a GREAT place to get good authentic BBQ. Let me assure you if you try it you will leave happy and satisfied. Try the extra hot sauce if you think you can handle it.
