At first, I didn't understand this place. I couldn't figure out why there wasn't a place to sit and work and talk with other people who shared your creative crazy for ceramics. After all, you can buy glazes online. Now I get it! This is a studio of POWER!!! If you want to create and can't afford (or aren't zoned for) a kiln you can come here. You are welcome You can use whatever clay you want, any glaze you want to try, and go for it! No one yells, there's no filthy language, no one answering any question you have with a question of their own until you feel like your are being interrogated under a single light bulb hanging from a string...Just be yourself. No one will mock you or throw things at you. They fire daily. There's no contracts or bullying to provide sketches. Just nice people who want you to achieve your artistic goals. What more could a creative want?!?

House of Clay actually offers classes, which is awesome for someone like me, who fancies themselves a skilled artist (NOT).In all truth, my friend Taylor, who owns Craig Proper, offers a few classes here. I've been friends with him and his lovely wife for long enough that I was like, eh, what the heck, I'll give it a go!Taylor is a fantastic teacher. I'm terrible at pottery (as I am most artistic endeavors), but he was determined to have me make two pieces I was happy with. He's even taking a piece back to his studio to fix, as it was too thin and was cracking in the middle. I've heard other students mention other teachers as well, and it sounds like it's generally a fantastic group of teachers.

I often go here with a potter whom I know; she buys all her clay here. (Who knew that there could be so many different types of clay in one little location in freakin' Oklahoma City?)The proprietress is friendly enough and helpful, but don't expect gushing, nor effusive friendliness. Nope -- this gal's all about business.(I hear this place offers hourly instruction at reasonable rates, but I don't know all the details.)Parking sucks, yes -- it truly sucks big green donkey dongs. (We often park across the street on an adjacent street and just walk over. It's easier that way, as pulling back out onto 30th Street from the tiny parking space in front of The House of Clay sometimes requires both an act of Congress AND the patience of a bleeding saint.)That said, though, this place has stayed in business for what I'd assume to be at least six decades, so you tell me just how bad parking situations affect business. (Apparently, not very.)Thumbs up.High praise.

I took my granddaughter here today and we had a great time painting a couple of items. I am always looking for thing to do to make memories for her and i to look back on. This is great place for all parents and grandparents to take a child here and create a memory. The people here were extremely friendly and helpful.

The ladies at House of Clay are very helpful and accommodating to my disabled daughter. We've enjoyed painting decorations and their prices are reasonable. We're customers for life.

It's great to know there is a ceramic studio that has all of the supplies you need and offers classes too. My brother is currently taking a ceramics class at UCO, and House of Clay was recommended to get the items he needs. The employee pulled out a box just for UCO students and knew exactly what to provide without us having to know anything about what was what. She was very helpful and friendly. I plan to look into their classes to do with my mom.

I have been using The House of Clay for the past 10 years for all of my pottery needs. As an art teacher for the Putnam City Schools they provided top of the line clay and kiln services, plus professional development for teachers when we needed a little extra instruction. When I decided to continue my own artistic training, they had the BEST wheel throwing classes for every level from beginning to advanced. I had taken ceramics in college, but never gained much confidence wheel throwing, but Marvin had me confident and throwing on my own before the end of the first night! The House of Clay has been around for over 65 years! It's a family run business and an Oklahoma City tradition. Judith Wagenseller, owner and operator, has always taken the time to answer my questions and find solutions for me. Her daughter, Hattie Wagenseller, is also very knowledgeable and is frequently helping out in the evenings and on weekends. I read that review about their hours being horrible. I don't know when she needed to shop, but I believe they are open at 10am and close at 5pm Tuesday- Saturday. Those are great hours where surely a little planning ahead could get anyone a good time to visit. As for the parking lot being gravel, it's a CLAY studio. Students clean their equipment, pour buckets of water outside, have firings, etc. etc. It's not the mall. The location is primo, right near The Paseo, Western, the Asian District, and Uptown 23rd. Their prices are great and the items you buy there are professional quality. If you've ever bought many art supplies, you know there are huge quality and price differences between student grade and professional grade- The House of Clay is the real deal.

Ive been in this store a couple times now. I take classes at the city arts center. This is one of the very few pottery/ceramic stores in okc. They have a great selection of glazes and clay. They also have bare ceramic items you can glaze or paint. So why just 3 stars. The location isn't good. The parking is gravel and just odd. And the hours are horrible. It's also super over priced and the older lady that helps you isn't really the nicest person or the most helpful.

A great local business ran by really wonderful women. I get all of my pottery fired by them and purchase a lot of my supplies here. They are helpful, friendly, and a staple in the ceramics community in Oklahoma City. I came here when I got started and I will continue to through out my pottery journey. High recommend.
