Sam's Southern Eatery

The food is fine: well-cooked, deep-fried oysters, perfectly cooked fried okra. However, I did not want fried okra. I asked for french fries. I asked for extra Sam's sauce because I was expecting french fries. As my order was a "to-go" order, I did not catch the error until I got home and opened my box. Unfortunately, it had already been a long time since breakfast, and I was so hungry I didn't dare wait longer to eat, (and if I had gone back to get the french fries replaced, I would have had cold fried oysters) so I was stuck with okra.:-(

OK, sorry for the three star review. This used to be a favorite. We would order the fried fish or the fried chicken and French fries. We loved it. Fries were nice & crispy, hush puppies were good, iced tea was huge! Service was really down home & friendly. Ambiance was fine.On our second trip back, we ordered completely different dishes. I tried the crab cakes. Let me preface my opinion by saying that I grew up near Maryland where they have the best crab cakes ever! I did not enjoy the crab cakes here. I ate one and left the other one on the plate. Too much breading, too much filler, too much grease. My dinner companion had the gyro sub. Y'all, just don't order a gyro at a seafood restaurant.I might still go back for the fish & chicken after I get over this experience. Sorry y'all. Still enjoyed the friendly people!

Love the fried fish here, light breading, low oil, and just enough crisp outside. Fish is flaky and great paired with their orange sauce. What is this sauce? I also got a bonus piece of fish- thank you!! I liked the fries- fresh and nice flavor with a slight kick, but I would skip the hushpuppies- they were old and over cooked. Inside is a little eclectic, some old theater propts and interesting stage. Staff at the checkout was super friendly, I should have asked her name- young girl (African American) she was so sweet. Definitely a nice fish spot!

First time eating there and it was super clean, catfish hot, crisp, and delicious! Side of hush puppies and red beans & rice were tasty. Po Boy sandich was excellent too. The young lady waiting on us was sweet and efficient. Give this place a try,I think you'll like it!

Love this place, we always place a to go order via the website. Food is always hot & fresh and well packaged for to go. I love the grilled catfish and my husband always gets the whole catfish.

I initially wanted to give this place two stars, but I can't think of anything this business has to offer that would credit it that extra star. The food of this place was an absolute mess:The hush puppies are somehow the worst hush puppies I've ever had, since they were hard, stale, and dry -- still, it tasted like a hush puppy, so I guess that's something. The chicken tenders, which I've read another reviewer saying "it's the best chicken tenders I've ever had..." you need to try some more chicken tenders, since it tasted straight out of a school cafeteria-- no crisp or flavor. Shrimp was the ultimate disappointment -- not only are they incredibly small for the price, but they had no flavor. The fries were thick-cut and definitely not the good kind, since they were all greasy and potatoey with no crisp. I guess I'll give the catfish an assessment: Flavor is alright and relatively large portions, but it's nothing impressive. What sort of tilted me over the edge -- despite the nice atmosphere/interior, really embracing the seafood vibe -- was the poor service. No, my waitress was not rude, but I had to clarify my order three separate times, and know and behold, I got the wrong order either way. To add to that, she left our sides, but I decided it wasn't even worth it at that point once I got home. Possibly avoid everything this place has to offer besides for the catfish, but that wasn't anything impressive either.

Always an amazing place to eat. Service is excellent, quality is superb and always super clean!

This is an absolute go to if you're looking for fish, or fried seafood in general. But the foods not the only thing we go there for. The service here is always wonderful. A diverse, clientele, laid-back atmosphere, and we're always treated wonderfully. There are a lot of places that say they can make this kind of food but Sams does it right.

Food was excellent- catfish and shrimp were tasty, hot, and out quickly. Fries were exceptional. Service was attentive and friendly. Great experience. Highly recommend.

Whenever I go to Norman area, I make about to stop and get some great catfish. Service is great and food is always great.
