Oklahoma City (OKC) is doing amazing things to attract tourists, and the OKC Streetcar is one of those amazing things. Providing clean, safe, easy to use, and inexpensive transportation that hits the highlights of the city is essential if you want tourists to see all that OKC offers. On a recent visit to OKC, I picked up a flyer that had a detailed map of the two streetcar lines. It also had a QR code that took me to a website where I could downloaded the OKC Streetcar app. The app is a great way to buy a ticket on your phone. However you can also buy one at the kiosks found at each platform stop. Tickets are $1 per ride, but you can also buy a $3 day pass or longer passes (monthly) if needed. There was no need to scan my ticket before mounting the streetcar. I simply had to press the "use ticket" button on the app on my phone. The main loop took me all over the city. It operates seven days a week and goes from early in the morning until late at night. The Bricktown loop only operates on the weekends. It's a shorter loop that hits the tourist center with the riverfront. Fortunately, the main loop that operates daily does the Bricktown loop too, so you can still get around and see it all. I was able to ride the streetcar from the botanical gardens to another area of town where I could get lunch. I also used it to see the OKC Museum of Art and to return to my hotel in an area of the city called Bricktown. I actually rode the streetcar the entire loop just to see the different areas of town. The streetcars come frequently, but you always have a nice sheltered bench to sit and wait. During the weekday, there were only two other people onboard with me. It was nice and cool inside. I appreciated being able to escape the sun and heat of the day and get off my feet for a short time. The streetcars are pristine inside and out. The route stops were clearly indicated on maps inside the streetcar as well as at the platform waiting area. Each streetcar announces the upcoming stop on a speaker and flashes it across an LCD panel near the driver. The driver is in a separate room at the front, but he was nice enough to answer my question before we continued on our way. Oklahoma City is a hidden gem in the heartland of America. It took two years for my husband to convince me it was worth the short drive north to visit the city. Improvements like investing in the new OKC streetcar are one of the many reasons I would recommend visiting OKC.

If you visit and stay in okc downtown area, street car is very convenient to grab food. There's good restaurants in downtown. Or just tour downtown.

What a great adventure. Downtown Oklahoma City is a destination, so much to see and do. It's a different vibe with so many areas to hangout and get gooooood food. The streetcar is the perfect touch to another mode of transportation uptown, midtown to downtown. Check it out!

We have Mr. Peanut to thank for finally getting our kids on the streetcar! The kids saw the Mr. Peanut mobile on the way to school on a Thursday in early March. We decided we'd go find it after school, and we did: in Bricktown, across from the American Banjo Museum. It was cool, but the visit was brief, consisting of a photo op, receiving a sticker, and picking out a complimentary bag of nuts: both of my kids chose "stashews" and I was proud of them for picking the priciest nuts without prompting. But that was it. And then, what do you do? Well, we hopped on the Streetcar, which would have been novel any time, but is incredibly novel for children who have scarcely left their home for a year, and who may not even remember the few times they were ever on a train or a tram of any sort. They absolutely loved it, especially when we got off at the Scissortail Park stop. Both conductors we had were fabulous, talking to us and answering the kids questions. It was spotless and seemed very safe, as there weren't many people on it. I suspect that is different during other times, but this was pretty blustery Thursday afternoon, not exactly peak time for streetcars. The streetcar made our experience in Bricktown and Downtown a lot more fun and a lot easier to navigate than parking multiple places would have been. It may not be the most practical for day-to-day use, but I would absolutely do this again in a heartbeat for Thunder games, visits to Scissortail, the Arts Festival, etc.

Convenient and cost-efficient method of transportation.I recently moved from Indianapolis. I got rid of my car while living and working downtown. I walked most of the time, had a BlueIndy membership (electric car rental service), occasionally rented a scooter and used Uber, so I am accustomed to alternate methods of transportation. I was eager to check out the streetcar because I'd never ridden one before. I decided to try it while my family was visiting, giving us a chance to see a few more places.I purchased our tickets via the Token Transit app, which can also be used to purchase bus passes. I recommend double-checking to make sure you are purchasing your desired mode of transportation because they are all in one row. Upon arrival the station, we were greeted by the streetcar in less than 5 minutes in Automobile Alley. I didn't check to see how frequently they arrive, so I was surprised. Maybe we hit it at a good time? We hopped on and were on our way with about 8 other passengers. Of course it's slow, it's a trolley/streetcar. I'm not sure what people who complained about it expected. I don't know if it's any faster than the city busses, but regardless, it's a neat and cheap way to travel the city, whether you're just visiting or a resident.

Wow! So convenient! We decided to take a free ride and check it out. I am personally a seasoned traveler when it comes to public transportation. It really made me think of DC, just not as crazy. We waited at the Baseball Park stop. We were picked up in 3 minutes. We did the whole Downtown loop. The seats were comfortable but, it was a little cramped. But, at this time that is no fault to them. They are offering free rides until January 5. So there were many people taking advantage of the ride. One thing I did notice is if you sit all the way to the front near the door where the driver is, you will have to be mindful of the door. They open and closed it a few times during our loop around. I was recently towed by the Oklahoma City street car due to unknowingly being parked too close to the white line as I enjoyed dinner across the street. Let me preface that I was completely unaware that I was parked too close to the white line, and I would have gladly moved my car had I been notified. After returning from dinner my car was no where to be found. I was told by the valet that someone came into First National to report a car blocking the street car, but was never informed of this. It would have been very easy for them to notify a server and the whole problem would have been resolved in a timely manner. After retrieving my car from the tow lot, I had 4-5 wet notices from the Oklahoma City street car plastered across my windows and mirrors. One paper would have surely sufficed. Along with this, I had glue and residue covering all of the surfaces that the papers were placed. Extremely unprofessional group, that I hope does not treat others this way in the future for an honest mistake.
