Mama E's Soul Food

Super disappointed to see that this place was boarded up and had closed.Food use to be excellent and always enjoyed it when in OKC.

We like to find Food Network restaurants when we travel and had high hopes for Mama E's, only to have them dashed as we walked in the door. The owner was sleeping at a table near the front door, it was hot (the A/C appears to have been out for a while), the restroom was broken and unavailable, the place was cluttered, and all the food on the hot table was covered up. We weren't even sure they were actually open as we were the only customers. Robert & Guy would surely be disappointed. Menu prices were crossed out and changes written in, more than once, letting us know what they used to charge. As for the food, we both ordered the chicken wings and waffles with two sides. The waffle was wonderful, the wings large and crispy (if under seasoned). We both had the black-eyed peas, my husband had the collard greens and I ordered the candied sweet potatoes. It was too much food; the chicken & waffle would have been a perfectly sized meal. I'll admit I don't know soul food, so maybe this much food is normal. The greens were tasty and still had some crunch, but the sweet potatoes were super sweet and the black-eyed peas were unappealing. Overall, we wouldn't recommend Mama E's to anyone.

I was thrilled to be able to stop by today when I was running errands. TJ was very nice. I am a first timer and he explained all my options. Line choices vs Dinner. I ordered off the line. 3 meats. 3 sides. 17.99 Huge portions. Huge! My favorite was the sweet potatoes. But everything was lovely. I love small places. Local. Full of charm and family recipes. I don't live near or get out that way often but when I do... I will be back.

Good service, pretty good food. Came of course because it had been on Food Network. No AC and lots of flies, but otherwise the food is worth coming for at least once. Pork neck bones were great!

Terrible food with rude customer service, my friend had a roach in her food and they accused her of putting it in there herself. The food looks like pig slop and taste like it to. DONT EAT AT THIS ROACH INFESTED ESTABLISHMENT.

I have been waiting for years to try this place. I cannot believe how underwhelmed and disappointed I was!! Service was just okay. The atmosphere and hot table serving station were in dire need of some TLC!! The only reason I am giving two stars is because the pigs feet and neck bones were seasoned and cooked really well. Cabbage was overcooked and bland & the cornbread muffins were stale. Mashed potatoes looked good but when I ate them I could tell that they were instant and had been sitting out a long time . Macaroni and cheese was really good but would have been better hot,IJS. The dressing was ok, it was more on the sweet side instead of savory. I won't waste my time coming back.

I got the catfish meal to-go.. Holy moly! Portion size was enormous. I wish that a lemon wedge would have come with it, I think it would have tasted nice with the breading. The catfish was perfectly cooked. I got greens with it which was very good however a little to Salty. Mac-n-Cheese in shell form was delicious. Building itself needs some more TLC.

Permanently closed, too bad, it sounded good. The reviews were really good but the location was unfortunately not.

Almost couldn't find it! But glad we did. The chicken was nice and crispy. The mashed potato and gravy was the best part!!! Mac and cheese was decent as well.

I don't write many reviews but I feel like I should share what my experience was here at Mama E's. First off, it was hot inside the building. Second, two out of the three sides tasted spoiled/rotten. Lastly, ROACHES. The first table my family went to sit at there was a roach running around on top. Then I went to the bathroom, which you have to go thru some sort of junk room to get to, it didn't have toilet paper but it had plenty of roaches all over the floor.
