Hen House

This is my go to place! I only allow myself one cheat day a week and if I go any place else I am disappointed! They never disappoint here and I love everything I have tried. Their healthy options are great too but it's hard to stay away from the dessert!

Absolutely outstanding BREAD PUDDING. Order the BREAD PUDDING. Get one to go and have one while you are there. You may think of picking it up for someone else, but once you try it, you'll keep it for yourself.I had a chicken fried chicken dinner. It was well prepared. Did I mention the bread pudding? They also had a coconut cream pie that is half cocoanut cream and half cheesecake. Get the bread pudding. Start dinner with that. I'd like to try the loaded nachos next time. Not a meat loaf fan.The place is packed at lunch time on weekdays. It's a little off the highway, but worth the detour.Listen to the sound of the air conditioner and order the bread pudding.

Came here on a Thursday. We got the chicken fried chicken special. It came with green beans, mashed potatoes, and a biscuit. It was good the portion sizes are generous. There is white gravy for the potatoes and the chicken which I got on the side. The butter for your biscuit is cinnamon/sugar. The biscuit is very tender.

Was driving through Okemah on the way to another appointment and saw the full parking lot and decided to stop in. Lunch specials offered, plus a full regular menu. Home cooked, good food. Nice portions, good variety. What sets the place apart is the pie. Oh mylanta, I had a piece of coconut cream and it was literally the best piece of pie I've ever had. I didn't even get a photo of it. Give this place a try if you're ever driving through, they're friendly, the food is great and you won't regret stopping in.

Chicken fried chicken keeps its breading on even drenched in gravy with the prefect amount of savory spice. The biscuits and cinnamon butter are fantastic. Not the fastest but I didn't go here for fast food. This is cooking for your soul and love.

Our OKFreewheel bicycle ride went through Okemah on June 23rd. So glad our organizers told us about this delightful restaurant and suggested it for our lunch stop. Hen House even opened early for us!I had the open face roast beef sandwich. It was absolutely delicious! We also had the bread pudding...yummy! The service was personal and attentive. We will be making a special trip over here from Tulsa to take our family to this welcoming Oklahoma treasure!

I ADORE THE HEN HOUSEIf you haven't tried it . . trot on over there. The quaint atmosphere and home cooking is worth the drive from wherever you are.They have some of the BEST meatloaf on the planet and if you go away without trying their desserts . . . you should be hit with a stick.p.s. the peanut butter cookies half dipped in chocolate are AMAZING (the calories don't count when eating here . . at least that's what I try to convince myself)

The specials are always great, but I prefer the chicken salad sandwich. Simple: chicken, grapes, apples, and mayo.

We found this place while we were exploring Okemah which is the birthplace and childhood home of famed folk singer Woody Guthrie. While looking for evidence of Guthrie and also feeling it was time to eat we found this interesting looking place and it beckoned us to enter. Was I ever glad about that as the meal may have been the best meal of a long trip featuring chicken fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans and a biscuit. It didn't smack of road food in the slightest. It felt like being invited over to someone's house for a home cooked meal. They are open limited hours thus can focus on what they do best which is a delicious lunch. Thanks to Woody Guthrie and the Hen House.

I was very disappointed in my last visit with family. We came in at 11:20 am. Was going to order the special but was told they were out of it. Then I ordered a sandwich which had been pre-made and was taken out of a refrigerator. It was dry and tough. The service was horrible. When the food was delivered it was tossed to us. No smile. I will not visit again.
