El Zarape is one our families favorites for Mexican food in Tahlequah. We don't have to travel too far for the excellent food... the chips and salsa for the table are fresh. Today, I tried something different .. but yes the Grilled pollo with grilled vegetables is really mouth watering!! However, a chile relleno hit the spot this evening on the number 7 dinner plate. This is a great place for large families and kid friendly. The adult beverages I do believe are just cerveza. Service is extremely friendly.

It's too hot to need a zarape today. What you need is a good aire acondicionado. El Zarape Mexican Restaurant has a good one. The temperature was very comfortable in the restaurant.Good service, good tasting food, pleasant atmosphere, large menu, relaxed dining in a small town OkieMex restaurant. It is not my top pick in Tahlequah, but I would have no problem taking a friend there to try it and recommend that you try it. The red salsa is a little weak on flavor, mostly tomato and garlic. The salsa picante is essential for the meal (ask for it.) I had the Combo # 7 and my wife had the Fajita Taco Salad (beef and Chicken.) Very fresh food served on hot plates. The quality of the meat and its seasoning stood out in both meals. The red sauce was the real deal. Delicious on the enchilada. Good beans, good rice. We ordered a small queso. As has been pointed out by others it is tasty, but runny. As it cooled it started to increase in viscosity. Freshly made. It was worth the drive to try El Zarape. On to the next small town Okie Mex restaurant. Where will it be?

Tahlequah has A LOT of Mexican restaurants but you will not find another like El Zarape. The food is cooked to order and comes out fresh every time I have ate there. Very family friendly place as they do not have a bar. The owner provides the best service in town. He is also very involved in helping the community. A great place to eat and support.

Service was great. Overall the food was good but we didn't like the queso. It was extremely watery. Didn't even stick to the chips. They also charged for a side a queso, tortillas and hot salsa when most places give those complimentary Also the fried ice cream was not actually fried.... Just wrapped in corn flakes. But the main dishes were really good.
