El Mexicano Restaurante

The restaurant is hidden on a side street in Perkins. It is not a recent cartel startup. The waitress said El Mexicano had been in business for over 15 years. They advertise as authentic Mexican and they are, with what I would call a little TexMex added in here and there. It was and excellent find for us. Two of the best plates of Mexican food that we have had, in small town Oklahoma restaurants. Nothing bland from the salsa to the beans, excellent spicy flavors. My wife had the Fried Tamales. Two fried until golden brown, topped with tomatillo salsa verde and queso blanco, garnished with diced tomatoes and cilantro. Served with rice and beans. For me the Papa Poblano. It was a different presentation of my favorite Mexican food items. An amazing combination of a deep-fried cheese filled Chile Relleno rolled up in a slab of fajita beef, topped with sauteed shrimp in a creamy mushroom chipotle sauce, garnished with diced tomatoes and cilantro. It is difficult to explain how delicious this combination was. The creamy cheesy spicy chipotle sauce made the meal. On the side, the perfect charro beans, topped with fresh chopped jalapeno, tomato and onion. These 5-star meals you have to try. They favor TexMex in presentation and spiciness.A great Mexican restaurant, attractive décor, comfortable chairs and booths, with small town friendly service. Beer and Tequila is available. This is the best Mexican restaurant in Stillwater and Perkins area. They have great salsa and a hot salsa version too. I like the chili rellenos but they have many good dishes. The servers are nice and efficient. I recommend El Mexicano!

We eating at El Mexicano regularly. My husband's favorite is the Ranchera Enchiladas with avocado slices and cabbage shreds. I enjoy their chicken fajitas. Delicious. Additionally, their rice is so good. Of all our area Mexican restaurants (a lot!) it is the best. One thing: chips are usually a bit tough but salsa is good.

Amazing service and great food. If you are looking for real Mexican and not the usual Tex-mex/ok-mex then this is the place for you. I had chicken enchiladas and they were so juicy and tender. A lot of times the chicken is dry but this wasn't even close. I will definitely be back. The drive from Stillwater is worth it.

Good food at a good price. The service is always great. Wish they were open on Sundays.

Ok went on Cinco De Mayo and even though it was crazy busy and super crowded, this is the best place in Stillwater/Perkins area! Food was great, and actually authentic vs the normal Tex-Mex we usually find. All three of us enjoyed our meals, and the service was outstanding! It was a little compact and noisy but the food and service made it absolutely worth it!

I'm so glad I took the chance and drove here! YUMMY! I asked the waitress for her too 3 recommendations and chose the Chile Rellenos. Changed out the sauce to a white queso and skipped the beans. Also, added a side of pico. Chips are good. Salsa and queso are served when you get to the table. Tea was fresh. Service on point. Will definitely try it again next time I'm in the area.

You can drive all over the state of OK and most likely this little place in Perkins is one of the best you will find. Some of the most authentic Mexican food I have ever had. You will enjoy the atmosphere, drinks, food and service. Great queso, chips and salsa! Very good chili relleno and chili verde. Highly recommend.Cheers

I've been living here all my life this is the best restaurant to go in Perkins great food

Hours say 11-3 on Sunday, but they're closed. This is at least the 2 nd time we've passed by great restaurants in Stillwater headed south and they are closed. Really irritating!
