Horrible staff. Terrible customer service. Manager lies and so does every person that answers the phone. Food is average at best. Wouldn't recommend El Charro for anything. Total waste of your time and money.

My family and I have been there twice. The food is very good and the first time we went in the evening and they seemed pretty busy for a small town restaurant. The server was knowledgeable on the menu and how things tasted and how big the portion would be. Today was out second visit and the food was still pretty good, but the service and atmosphere were horrible. From what we could see there were 4 teenagers working and no adults/supervisors were present for our whole meal. The waitress was very inexperienced and seemed to have just started. The main problem were the 3 teenage boys that we assume were cooks since they kept going in the back and disappeared when our order went to the kitchen. Once they got back they were loud and very rude. We have a 15 month old and they are loud as any parent knows so we went at an off time so she would cause less of a problem. My wife could over hear them since they were one table over and they were talking about loosing their virginity and to whom and other such topics. When my toddler would get upset they would start making comments like why would you take a baby to a restaurant, they should just get their food and go. I would say if you go make sure that there are adults working and not just teenagers. As I said before, Food is pretty good. Not sure if we will go back anytime soon but we will definitely be trying out some of the other Mexican places in the area.

You would not expect to find such delicious, fresh-made food in this little roadside restaurant attached to a motel. The chips and salsa are always good and fresh. The salsa has some chunkiness to it, which is a plus to me. I don't like salsa with the consistency of ketchup (like they serve at Las Margaritas in Elgin, for example). The free cheese dip they serve with the chips and salsa varies some. Sometimes it is cheesier than other times, but it has a good flavor regardless. I would definitely recommend you order the pico de gallo with your chips. It is absolutely the best and freshly made for your order. It is great with the chips, or with Guacamole, or with fajitas. It pretty much makes everything better. We really love the mixed (beef and chicken) fajitas for two. The portions are very generous. The marinade is just great. This is what fajitas should taste like. The grilled veggies (onions and bell peppers) are delicious, too. Two of us can never this dish, and always have some to take home. No alcohol is served here, but they will let you bring you own bottles. If you bring wine, bring a corkscrew, too. The fajitas for two, by the way, are $17.99, I think. There are many, many authentic Mexican entrees on the menu. They also have cheeseburgers, which are huge and excellent. All in all, I would recommend El Charro if you want fresh-cooked Mexican food for a very reasonable price! One other things: they introduced a TV a couple months back, but I have noticed that it has been off the last few times I visited. I suspect the other patrons didn't like the addition any more than we do, so yes, there is a TV, but it is usually off.

Fresh always made to order, faimly run. Great for the whole family! Fresh chips and salsa made daily. Clean and friendly. Way better than any of the bigger name restaurants. Mexican potatoes are unique and delicious. Anything he makes with steak in it is amazing, tender, juicy and flavorful. Catfish on Fridays, you won't be disappointed.

The restaurant isn't all that pretty but the food is delicious! The #37 or any of the Fajita meals are amazing and everything is authentic. Service is okay depending on which waitress you get, but I overlook it. Definitely recommend coming here.

I grew up eating good Mexican food. My Mom and her sisters (Montoya family) made terrific Mexican food. So I became "fussy" about my Mexican food as I traveled around the country. I moved to this area and could not find decent Mexican food until I tried El Charro. The owner/manager is Mexican. His cook is Mexican. Several of the other staff are Mexican. This place is "the real deal". I have tried several of the items on the amazing menu. I always end up at #29 (Picadillo Coahilo Style). For the spicy taste, this is fantastic. And #31 is always a good choice (Mariachis). This is a chicken and beef dish that is "yummy". Everything at El Charro is fresh and delicious. I recommend El Charro to anyone who wants great Mexican food.

At El Charro's you are served genuine home style Mexican food in an atmosphere worthy of Old Mexico. They also serve American style food with a bit of Mexico flavor. It's not the typical tourists restaurant. It's more like a small town family owned.
