Charlie's Chicken & Barbecue

The chicken here is great. Every part of the chicken. I love the gizzards, but sometimes the fry is a little salty. The chunks are excellent, usually never dry. The meatloaf is pretty good too. However, gotta take the good with the bad, and that would be the bbq. I know bbq is a pretty subjective topic, and everyone seems to be a bbq expert around here, so take my review of the bbq with a grain of salt. I just don't like it. The chopped brisket is chopped way too fine, and you can almost spread it on a sandwich like potted meat. The ribs are a bit too overdone most the time for me, and the pulled pork isn't as smokey tasting as I like. Again, everyone has different tastes in bbq, this one is mine. If you're in a hurry, DONT USE THE DRIVETHRU. It's almost always faster to go inside to order and get it to go. Inside the place is clean, and doesn't have a greasy fried food smell. The staff is always helpful and very friendly.

The food was warm, at best and very salty. I expected a bit my flavor and for the food to be warmer than room temperature.

Love the ambiance. Nice little chicken and barbecue place. Never thought I would say that. Definitely stronger in the chicken department. This is not going be the best barbecue you have ever eaten but the food is good. My wife is the rib eater in our family and she said they were good. The chicken has a good flavor with just a little kick and the serving sizes are nice. The sandwich was good. I prefer a thick cut bologna sandwich so be prepared for thin slices. But I ate it all and enjoyed it. Coke slaw was very good. Potatoes are creamy. The baked beans are a little on the sweet side but delicious. Potato wedges are good as well. Talked to another guy in the restaurant who had the chicken fried steak said it was pretty good. This is a fun place to stop if you are traveling, especially if you prefer to avoid chains. They also have a drive thru.

Think we should have tried the BBQ. Chicken was mediocre and mashed potatoes were tasteless. I was not impressed

Skeptical of the words "Chicken Chunks" so think thick short chicken tenders, yummy! Batter tasty, food hot. Looks like they're remodeling so we took it to go. I'm giving a 4 for the chicken alone.

Always the best chicken ever, service is amazing and I am always glad to see they have everything I want

I really debated between 4 and 5 but the sides and dessert took it over, easily. I found this place RANDOMLY on my drive to TX. Google maps had a 4+ rating and on Yelp it was just bleh but I wanted to at least try a non chain since I can go to a chain back home.I gravitate towards chicken fingers but they have chunks. To be honest I have no clue how or where from the chicken they get these huge chunks, think 2 McD nuggets, but it's TRULY solid chicken meat and not formed. The batter was no oily nor too thick at all. So so good. They could even do a spice one.You get your food RIGHT away during peak hours at the next window.The wedges BLEW MY MIND. The batter is thick on the outside but inside was the fluffliest and lightest potato ever. Not mushy fyi. Banana pudding is HOME MADE and amazing. Perfect blend of ingredients and I'm a BP snob.ORDER: at counter JEANS: OK by far

Great tasting chicken. Succulent. Good coleslaw. Mashed potatoes not so much. Clearly instant potatoes, not good. They claim to be a healthier choice, but not if they are using canola oil and corn oil. Counter service, casual country vibe. It was good but won't be back because of unhealthy oils used. Also girl at counter filled my cup with ice when I asked for light ice (I can overlook that, but she dumped it back into the ice bin. Health code violation

Great chicken place and very reasonable prices. They have an extensive menu, but I just went with chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes, and a roll. Everything was hot and fresh. Crispy, well-seasoned chicken and excellent sides. Super-friendly service. I was a bit overwhelmed by the menu, but the woman taking my order was very patient. I ordered chicken and a side and then added another side, but she turned it into a meal and saved me some money. Food came out quickly and was smoking hot. Would like to come back and try more stuff from the menu.

Bbq brisket was bad bad bad. Like it was boiled. Took one bite, spit it out and got McDonalds. Think about that. BBQ so bad you have to wash the taste out with McDonalds. Im not a local and all the locals were eating the chicken so I'm assuming they know the deal. Sides were tasty though.
