You can rent this place apperntly. The owner seemed defensive when I asked him about the story of this place and the store name. I guess "Kids don't do drugs" comes to mind from talking to him. He was quite the space cadet and am not sure why he was so apprehensive about answering simple questions. It is about the size of a living room and has a fridge, etc in it, hence part of my curiousity. The artwork in there seems demonic, which is fine but there wasn't too much in it. I am still confused what the premise of this place is.If you catch the owner when he is not high, you may get a better answer.

Bomb Shelter is a very low-key art gallery. The last few times I've been, the exhibits have been weird in a good way. The owner, Max, is super cool and keeps a secret stash of Japanese candy that he offers to the cool kids. I always have to stop by when I'm at a LIVE on the PLAZA.

This is my absolute favorite artist and galley in Okc. If you are a fan of Dada style of Neo-Expressionism, or just really a fan of unique original conceptual art you will love this gallery. Every month the artists turns the small space and windows into a full installation complete in concept. One year he did an elemental theme which included 3 months of water themed pieces, 3 months of earth theme, and so on. As mentioned above it seems that everything Bomb Shelter does is a complete well thought out concept. Note several things about the space so that you are not surprised. Bomb Shelter is the name that the artist does all his work under, it is open one weekend a month during the Plaza Districts monthly art walk ( 2nd fridays) . The artist is very absorbed in his work( which i think is what makes its so awesome) and therefor seems a bit shy around people and I noticed it takes him a bit to warm up to talking to folks about his work ( this is very common for many creative types) . Because of this he is not open regular hours except for the art walks. Sometimes if you knock he will let you in to see what he is working on for the next month and I noticed they sell some of his smaller works and stickers at a shop around the corner on NW 16th St called Dig It . Also as in many of the spaces in the Plaza District the space is residential live in space as well , so don't be surprised when you see a kitchen in many of the spaces. I do not believe this artist lives in his space though, pretty sure it is just used as his studio and exhibit space. With these things noted just know that in my experience it is totally worth waiting each month for a chance to see inside the space and see what new concept Max has come up with. It is definitely unique and different and I am never dissappointed. In addition to the internal space Bomb Shelter also updates his large window displays each month and this are accessible 24 hours a day for viewing and are just as exciting to check out when you can.
