Bill Kamp's Meat Market

I've heard so much about this butcher. Or at least it's amazing history. Since my prior butcher, The Meat Market, shut down, I've had to find another one. On my visit yesterday, I was helped by the nicest gentleman who went above and beyond to help me select meat that would meet my needs for the meal I had planned. But also yesterday I witnessed the owner handle several types of raw meats including raw ground beef without the benefit of gloves or a hand wash. He then proceeds to handle another customer's HAM. Again without gloves or hand washing or sanitizing. And ham is something you might not heat up enough to kill the bacteria that is in raw ground beef. So. Be warned.

The Kamps are the sort of cheery mom and dad cooking experts we all need. They have punny songs and will chat with you at length about their cuts, their pasta partners and all the best ways to marinate meats. I take my daughter here with me to get one of their always-available suckers, and they swoon over her and offer for her to feed the fish. I can't get enough of this meat market and the way it feels like a time portal to a bygone era that you can't wait to share with your family. Buy your meat here. It is so much better than anywhere else not just for the cuts but also the experience.

The staff is incredibly nice and helpful. Their selection of not just meats but cheese, potato salads, spices, etc is great! I love to find local places to get my meat and cheese from and I think I found it here. I was even able to get some marrow bones too. They can give you a block of cheese or slices so if you want to slice or shred it yourself you can or you can get burger/sandwich ready slices.

Highly recommend! I've gotten a wide variety of items here - steaks, meatballs, startlingly good bucatini pasta, and it's all been fantastic. Kind, helpful people work here, and they carry a wide array of local goods - not just fine meats. So walk around for a few minutes and see what all they have before you check out. Also, very important - OKC Sweets is right next door, so go to Kamp's, get something for your entrée, then grab a couple oatmeal cream pies.

This is now our go to meat shop. We drive in from Guthrie for the meat. Fantastic quality! The ribeye is the best we have had! The fillet is outstanding and the sausages are incredible! I had the pleasure of meeting Bill and his wife and they are very kind and welcoming people. The staff are excellent. You have converted us into "Kampers" and we are now loyal life long customers. You guys are the best!

We couldn't be happier with the smoked turkey breast we ordered for Thanksgiving. It was just a phone call to order, and pick-up the day before Thanksgiving was super easy. Our breast was around 10 pounds and it was $50. Heck it's hard to find lunchmeat for that price, much less a quality bird and customer service. I'll be ordering my bird every year from Kamps. It was moist, smokey and delicious. We also bought some cookies while we were there and they were a hit too

Update I made Beef Wellington with the tenderloin omg how tender the meat was . This is an update on my last review, I would love to give them 10 STARS!

I'm guessing the Nichols Hills crowd doesn't much care but I felt taken advantage of here. Only some prices are posted so we were constantly having to ask. While my husband was having a friendly convo with Mr. Kamp I decided on getting a 1/2 lb of marinated fajita beef strips. He quoted me $9 a lb. He handed me the container so overstuffed with meat I was afraid it might pop open. He had crammed 3/4 of an lb in there without okaying it with me! I didn't interrupt, let them continue their friendly chat. But on top of that I get to the register and it rings up $12.95 a lb! I should have left it on the counter or spoke up, which I regretted soon after. He seemed like a nice enough guy (besides dropping the F-bomb in front of our 7 year old). So I was expecting $4.50 I ended up paying twice that. It's a tactic I've seen before. My husband had even spoke with him about us being on a tight budget at the time, not that he cared. The nearby mansion dwellers may just let him get away with that crap, but it is not cool with me. I will not return to a place that will put first time customers in uncomfortable situations for a few extra bucks. It wreaks of shadiness.

Ordered our BILL'S HANDCRAFTED WHOLE SMOKED BONELESS HAM on 12-18, our pickup time was between 1-3pm on 12-24. We arrived before 2pm and Kamp's pulled a bait & switchon us, told us they didn't have our ham, but would sell us a different ham, since this was our final thing to do before our Christmas festivities began, and we didn't want to go look for a ham on Christmas Eve, we agreed to the ham they did have, a generic, spiral sliced ham, no brand, no label, no weight, a completely blank vacuum seal ham, that turned out to be of poor quality, almost flavorless! VERY DISAPPOINTED! I've sent 2 emails to Kamp's but they have not responded!

Went to Bill Kamps on Thursday of last week to check it out. Bill waited on me. The service was quick and efficient. The meat was amazing. And our guests were very happy. We'll be back!!!
