The woman helping my girlfriend size a pack was inviting and understanding. She took lots of time testing weight, adjustments, and teaching her techniques to keeping a pack comfortable at a beginner level. All the while, she shared her favorite hikes in the area as if we were sitting on the front porch having coffee. A real brick and mortar that understands repeat business and cares.

I've been going to Backwoods for years, but somehow it had not been on my radar for a review. We recently popped in to buy some Christmas presents (Smartwool makes an excellent gift, especially when you're not sure what to do for someone). We were also looking for some Patagonia capiliene and a few other items my husband was in search of. We ended up with a lot more booty than we intended to, thanks mostly to our excellent salesperson. We were assisted by Christa, who helped us find exactly what we were looking for, and was also able to point us in the direction of a few similar brands and options when they were out of the sizes we wanted in a few things. She also suggested a few other fun items we might get since we were clearly on the hunt for stocking stuffer-y type gifts. I really appreciated the personal help, especially during a busy holiday Saturday. I had previously thought Backwoods was a big national chain, but it turns out, they are just a small regional group of stores with locations in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska and Arkansas. I'm much more interested in spending my money regionally, with a small, locally owned chain, than I am going to Bass or Cabela's.

So happy to find this place; my Colorado heart was aching over the lack of a nearby REI but this gem provided the same level of quality and customer service. One of the workers spent a good amount of time helping me size and choose a framed backpacking backpack and was extremely helpful. The price was reasonable and they offer a 15% military discount- thank you so much! They have a great selection of all things adventure, and I will certainly be returning for any other outdoor gear.

I happened upon Backwoods when I was looking for Life is Good gear. They seem to have a larger selection than the other place that offers it on May. They have a great selection and the staff is always helpful and available. I love to walk around Backwoods because have really neat and Eco-friendly products!Recently I contacted them for a non-profit donation and they went above and beyond and made our event have some really cool items for our auction.Love love love Backwoods!

Great customer service with a very knowledgable staff. If you enjoy outdoors adventure, this is the best outfitter in OKC. Camping, hiking, fly fishing. They have all of the best outdoor clothing, gear and shoe brands.

Rick helped me get the appropriate thickness for a replacement chain for my wife's necklace after the original broke. It was a big improvement over the cheap one from that store in Alaska.

I worked at Backwoods in Albuquerque, NM, before being promoted to manage the Backwoods store in Oklahoma in the early 1980s. All my friends in New Mexico gave me condolences for having to move to Oklahoma. Turned out, for one thing, to be one of the best areas for rock climbing I'd ever experienced and there were plenty of devoted outdoorsy folks there. I have very fond memories of Backwoods in OKC and all the great friends I made there. I am so glad to see the store is still going strong!

I went to Backwoods recently and noticed that they are stocking a lot more items than they used to. I was greeted as I walked in and an employee guided me over to the ever expanding fly fishing area. The employee realized that he didn't have enough knowledge of fly fishing so he got another employee with more experience. I talked to this employee for 30-45 minutes and purchased everything I needed with confidence, hats off to Backwoods and their great customer service. I will definitely be back.

Bought a pair of Khul pants and the first time I wear them the seam begins to come undone in the back pocket. I take them back for a replacement after only having them a few days and I'm told by an employee that they will not exchange them because it had to be my fault. I will never go to Backwoods again and will tell everyone I know to spend their money elsewhere. I would rather spend more money somewhere else where I know I will be taken care of if I'm sold a faulty product. It's not as if they have the best prices anyway. If I spend 75 dollars on a pair of pants, I should expect them to last longer than one wear under any circumstances. Especially a pair of rough and tough Khul pants. Good luck buying something from Backwoods because they may not replace it if they sell you something that doesn't work like it's supposed to.
