I liked this place under previous ownership. It's close by and the food was always good. And then it changed ownership. And I was scared. :-). But, unlike most places that change ownership, the food actually got better, the atmosphere got better, and the service is great. Very nice people. Awesome food.I bring different people here for meetings regularly. I know that no matter who I bring, they're going to like it.

My partner and I were looking for a nice, sit-down, sushi joint and realized a new restaurant (they've only been open for just a few months) was only a few minutes from our place. We ordered a bunch of food:Tai Dai Roll - Albacore, cucumber, cilantro, jalapeños topped with tilapia, avocado, garlic sauce and green onions. **it was bright, refreshing and absolutely deliciousPork Jowl - Thai grilled pork jowl with spicy dipping. **One of the best pork dishes we've ever had.Spicy Dai Roll - Spicy scallops, cucumber, avocado topped with albacore, garlic sauce and green onion. **I've never had the combination of eel with scallop before and I'm not sure why because it was AMAZING.Scallop Roll - Scallops.. duh. **Clean and tasty. The Mrs loves scallops and now I do too.Tuna Steak Special - Seared tuna coated in a spice mix and served in some wonderful, buttery, sauce. **Not too heavy but absolutely delicious.Portions were great (we had leftover Pork that I look forward to eating later tonight). The staff was very attentive and we had a nice talk with Lisa. The restaurant is one run by 3 former restaurant owners that have known each other most of their lives. They work really well together and decided to bless our neighborhood with the incredible gem that is Oishii Thai Japanese Cuisine. They actually care and want you to experience their great food.I'm excited to go back and try some of the Thai food too. It all looks amazing! Seriously, try this place, take your friends and enjoy yourselves as much as we did.

The food was great! Especially the pork Jowl and crispy pork belly.Service was excellent and definitely deserved their rating. They even put my left overs in a container and made it look like I ordered it fresh to go on top of a small salad. I was impressedAmbiance is nice, small little hole in the wall, and parking is a little challenging, but was worth it

This is a small restaurant in a strip mall. I was intrigued with the Thai and Japanese combination, and it turned out to be more Thai dishes and Sushi, as opposed to a fusion situation. The servers were super friendly, and I suspect they might have been the owners, who greeted and served us enthusiastically throughout the meal. Overall, I enjoyed the Thai dishes - especially the pork jowl that had a perfect amount of fat and flavor. The crab fried rice was also spot on. Where I think they could improve was in the sushi - while properly seasoned, the rice did not hold together on the pickup, and any of the grains were broken. Also unfortunately the mackerel was past its prime, and the octopus cut far too thick for enjoyment. I would happily return here for the Thai food.

Oishii is a fusion Japanese and Thai restaurant located in a nondescript suite east of SDSU and west of La Mesa. They used to be affiliated with a sushi bar of the same name, however that establishment in Santee is now permanently closed. When I visited several weeks ago, the grand opening had just occurred. The service counter was straight ahead when you walked in while the sushi bar was set up along the right wall of the room. I would say the dining capacity was sufficient for about 40 customers. There were no outside tables in front of the suite.I sat at a booth and pored through the menu that was several pages in length with photos of various dishes. There was a fairly equal number of Japanese and Thai choices. I picked the Pad Thai with shrimp as the main part of my meal. Half a dozen shrimp were added to stir fried small rice noodles with egg, green onion, bean sprouts, and ground peanuts. The presentation was great, and the flavor was on point for this classic Thai entree. My only quibble was the portion size which was smaller than I expected for the price. I also selected two of the maki sushi offerings in a J. Roll and a Doug Roll. The first was made up of crab meat, tempura flakes, and cucumber wrapped in soy paper topped with spicy mayo and masago. The chef modified the ingredients by forming the product with regular sushi rice instead of soy paper. This roll was priced at a bargain value of $9. I asked the waitress if it was a mistake because some of the specialty rolls cost twice as much like the second one I had ordered. She replied no which meant I happily consumed the eight pieces in the serving. The second had spicy tuna, scallop, and cucumber topped with yellowtail. I can't say the Doug Roll stood out in flavor or appearance versus the J. Roll though. The fish quality was very good so that was positive. The server seemed to go out of her way to ensure I had what I needed as she checked up on me frequently. My dining experience at Oishii Thai Japanese Cuisine was worthy of a four star rating.

The food is so delicious and the Thai ice tea is perfect (and enormous)! But even more than the food the service is so wonderful! The ladies who are working are so sweet and attentive. There's a reason that this place has only 5 stars!

This is one of the few yelp reviews I've ever done. Oishii is the most legit authentic sushi spot you'll find in SD. I'm a sushi dude and this will be my new favorite/regular spot. Not only is the food absolutely incredible but the service is stellar. Lisa and her crew do an amazing job of making you feel at home and comfortable in their little unique restaurant. CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE ENOUGH!!
