Really enjoyed the bakery treats I purchased at Wonder Food Bakery. The hot dog buns, the pineapple buns with taro, custard or red bean, the corn and ham bread, you really get to taste an array of flavors. Not to mention they also have egg tarts.Go in the afternoon as they have more selection to choose from.

A little gem in Oakland Chinatown that sells a wide range of baked goods and treats. I had a bit of time after grocery shopping and picked up some pineapple buns and egg tarts. The pineapple buns were soooo good and cost $3 for 5. They were really big for that price and tasted good. I could honestly eat a dozen egg tarts but I just had one to indulge myself. This is a cash only establishment and street parking is limited so be prepared before stopping by.

Came by to pick up my kid's bday cake and of course some mini bolo baos (5 for $3) and whipped cream and coconut buns (my mom's favorite). What's super lame is their storefront is all tagged up . Not that it will deter me anyway.

My favorite place to get asian pastries in Oakland!!If theres a line it usually moves quick! The workers speak chinese but they are familiar with the names in english. We ordered 3 peanut zongzi, 2 egg tarts, 2 pineapple custard bun, 4 ham corn bun, and 2 pork floss buns for ~30$! Not bad for the amount of items we got!I didn't get it this time but coconut cocktail buns and char siu baos are also my go-tos as well! Bring cash because it is cash only!!!

Looks can be deceiving. The storefront is all tagged and boarded up BUT what lies within is nothing but pure goodness. Buns are all petting much under $2. They only accept cash so come prepared. We ordered a dozen cocktail buns, some almond and taro paste buns, pineapple buns, and scallion and ham buns. The great thing about all these is that they aren't overly sweet and the flavors are subtle. The bread is so so soft, like the softest bread ever. You have to eat these right away for optimal satisfaction. The cocktail buns are really good - soft and filled with coconut paste. YUMMY! If u like coconut this is your jam.

Cash only pastries shop. It is interesting chinese cake and pastries shop. From outside you won't know itvis a cake shop as it looks a bit run down. I feel like I am back to my childhood when I saw so many pastries which I had when I was a kid and the taste is still the same. I bought some home and had some at the store. The husband and wife baked cake are authentic. The worker is friendly but mostly cannot speak English well but cantonese.

Fave Chinese and Canto bakery in Oaktown! We're so lucky to have the legendary Wonder Food Bakery here in our very own Chinatown. Their dan ta/egg tarts are my kryptonite. As well as the prices. You really can't find any place that has such economical prices these days, not even Sheng Kee Bakery. Their cocktail buns are what everybody gets. But I also LOVE their pineapple buns and their pork sung/rou song bao. Bring cash! There's really no frills to it. Their entrance is a nondescript door, but once you walk in you'll smell the aromas that is authentic Chinese bread. And that includes authentic zero effort service interaction. We love to see it. We love to support it.

Came for BBQ baked buns bec of the reviews. The bread is soft and fluffy- so yes I agree w those who said that. But. There is barely any bbq pork! The meat is lean and flavorful but the meat to bread ratio is lacking. Most buns are $2 each. Friendly service. No indoor seating. No frills bakery. Cash only.

340 9th St Oakland, CA 94607(near Webster St)Wonder Food Bakery is the first place I go to for baked goods in Oakland Chinatown. The storefront isn't too attractive, but those who know better will have no problem stepping thru that doorway. This is not Sheng Kee, this is not self-service. You step up and tell one of the ladies at the counter what you want. They will ask "how many?" You don't have to speak Chinese to order. Just smile and point at the item. The egg tarts and pork buns are behind the counter on carts. There's alot of signs up telling you certain rules like:- Cash Only- Carry Out Only- bag fee- 5 penny limit for payment- No Touching items- No refunds after leaving storeMy favorites are: Egg Tarts, BBQ Pork Bun, Curry Beef Turnover, Sweetheart Cakes, and Sponge Cakes. FYI: The cream filled cake rolls are not very sweet. Don't buy them. Street parking

Best pineapple buns in ALL of SF Bay Area! (Better than Pineapple King) To be specific the mini ones is perfect ratio of topping to bread! The bread is super fluffy and moist (competition is less fluffy and drier). The topping is crispy and buttery flakey goodness. OMG! Other favorites would include ham egg bun and their egg tarts are very solid! Oh can't forget love their chinese cakes. We usually order the strawberry. But can't wait to try some of the other flavors such as taro or chestnut! Don't forget cash only!
