Our review for @wakatobirestaurants in Newark:- Price point: $$ (~$50 pp)- Cuisine: Japanese- Ambience: Nothing fancy, but it was quiet and clean. I thought we were a bit over dressed for the place, its super casual and friendly place to eat!- Food review:1. Sashimi combo platter (9/10): this was an assorted sashimi set of chef's choice, the fish was of supreme quality, fresh, melt-in-the -mouth and the price point was unbelievable (27$)! The same platter anywhere in bay area would have been ~60$ or more. 2. Phoenix roll (8.5/10): Topped with spicy crab, spicy mayo, and crunch. Inside, Avocado and spicy tuna, Loved it! The flavors went very well together!3. Volcano roll (9/10): Salmon, Tuna, Crab, Cucumber, Avocado, Cream Cheese, Spicy Mayo, Eel Sauce; this was sooo good, the fish: rice ratio was superb!4. Chicken & shrimp hibachi (10/10): Not pictured here, but this was one of the best hibachis we ever had, no shows that usually accompanies a hibachi dinner, but the taste was delicious! We have tried a lot of hibachi and sashimi places, but this one was a bomb, especially given the price point! We loved everything we tried and cannot wait to go back soon!Give them a try, if you are local! Overall experience: 9.5/10OF COURSE, WE WILL BE BACK !Recommended for: Hibachi/sushi/sashimi lovers

Went there for my birthday recently, it's a smaller restaurant in the old Lido Faire shopping center. I let my kids pick dad's birthday dinner & they said sushi or teppanyaki. These guys have both, although it isn't the whole knife-juggling table front show, you can order some nice teppanyaki. Sushi quality & presentation was on point. Steak & seafood teppanyaki was solid. The server handled business & went out of his way to make minor changes that my feral children asked for. Will absolutely be going back. I really hope to see these guys stick around and expand. Also - Halal options, was nice to see. Halal diet is new to me, so sticking with it is quite easy when you see the Halal marking right on the menu. Keep up the good work fellas.

Located at the very end of the "alleyway" right next to Ranch 99. +1 star for opening late, +1 star for decent sushi. Average price. Paid about $65 for 3 rolls. Ordered the phoenix, volcano, and shrimp tempura roll. I don't know if it's because we came late at around 10pm but customer service was terrible. First I had to flag the server that we were ready to order. Flagged him again for saucers for the soy sauce. Flagged him a third time for extra napkins. Did not even refill water. The miso soup we ordered was room temp. Wanted something hot and comforting on a windy evening. Did not receive that. The deep fried roll we got wasn't hot either. The number one thing they do that I don't appreciate is they add a 20% service charge. I wasn't even in a big group, it was just me and my bf. They didn't provide any exceptional service either. I definitely don't think they were worth tipping that much! Considering the server didn't even check up on us. And there was only a total of 5 people (including us) seated. So it's not like they were busy! Adding a tip suggestion box at the end is insane.Wanted to go back to try their lunch menu but will not be returning.

Saw their small advertisement at the stoplight and been wanting to come try this place. Glad I did! We were warmly welcomed as soon as we entered Service was great, friendly staff. We ordered the salmon dinner and it came with a salad and miso soup. The fish was tender and crispy at the same time, perfect! The salad dressing was delicious! The miso soup, nice and hot. We also ordered the Scallop dinner with steak and fried rice. Steak was medium well and melted in your mouth! The scallops were perfectly cooked and delish! We also ordered a dragon roll and the eel cucumber roll. The rice on the sushi roll was a little over cooked for my liking, but the rolls were still tasty. The restaurant was clean, very relaxing vibe as they played soothing instrumental music as you ate. It did not have the "cook in your face" and "food thrown at your face" like other hibachi places, but to be honest, I preferred it this way Definitely will be coming back to this nice find!

This little hole in the wall is a secret gem of Newark. When you walk in it's unsuspecting as a Hibachi style restaurant. They greet you as you walk in and the service is super friendly and cater to their customers every need. The food is very fresh, and the hibachi plates taste just like when they cook it front of you. I wish someone flipped a shrimp into my mouth or made a volcano or fried rice heart but it was a great experience regardless.

Looking for a late night sushi place with good quality sushi and beautiful presentation? this is your place to go!! Stumbled upon this place tonight when looking for a place to eat around 9:30/10 and most places were closed, except here! We thought sushi sounded great, and I've been seeing signs around the area for this place. The sushi surprised me!!! The presentation was sooo pretty as you can see in the photos, definitely unique with the sauce writing, the flower, etc. The ingredients felt very fresh for the rainbow roll. Additionally the Angry Dragon was also pretty yummy, not too saucy which is how i like my rolls. The servers were also sooo nice and hospitable given we came in a bit later. This place needs more attention for sure!

We expected Wakatobi to be incredibly busy during lunch but it was pretty quiet and we were seated right away as the place was empty. The service was good, not great, but not bad either. Would have appreciated a little more attention for it being so empty but it is what it is. To the food...wow, just wow. My wife had a rainbow roll which she loved. Our daughter had a kids hibachi which seemed like a lot of food for a child but we definitely finished it. I had the combo hibachi of chicken and shrimp. Their yum-yum sauce was definitely yum-yum and was the perfect pair for the meat and fried rice. I cannot wait to come back and try some rolls and more of everything else they have to offer.

I loved that they were halal, I think it's very hard to find halal places with diverse cuisines. The food was overall very good and fresh. The staff was also helpful and nice, and the ambiance of the restaurant was great. It's a small place with cute decor and a quiet ambiance!

what the heck? this tiny portion for $25..... it was $3 extra for chow mein just to get this lousy a** portion. I'm pissed . barely any noodles ... barely any veggies ? absurd. even panda gives more food. I've gone to other habachi trucks who give you a huge plate for $30. And it's enough for me and my partner to share. With left overs.. I expected to be able to share and it wasn't it's enough. I'd rather just go somewhere else not worth your money. The tiny amount of chow mein is ridiculous
