Ver Brugge Foods

This is a great butcher shop for all of your meat needs, from beef, lamb, chicken, to seafood. First, pick up a number and wait for your turn to be served. The butchers behind the counter are nice and quick with their service. I came for a NY steak and the selection did not disappoint. Got a steak for about $23, a fair price point. This place also sells cheese, salami, and olives for your charcuterie needs. Definitely recommend!

Who doesn't want to eat meat?Except for maybe Vegans and Vegeterians.Anyway, my point being there's nothing like fresh organic meat.Came here looking for some rib eye and wound up buying their special sausage, lamb, and some short ribs. There was just so much fresh meat in stock, and of course, you're supporting a local business too, so it's definitely a win-win!

As far as true butcher shops go? They are few and far between. This shop has been in the same place since I was in high school (BHS class of '95), it is part of the "old Oakland" that is nostalgic, and means something to me. But aside from the romance, it is a really great butcher shop.The selection is wide and the quality is great. From steaks, chickens whole, and by the parts, seafood, fresh ground meats, and housemade sausages, this place is a great source for all things carnivorous. They also have a nice selection of charcuterie type of fixin's...olives, cheeses and several salamis for when I want to pick up a baguette next door at la farine and call it a party.I know some people go across the street to Safeway for a "convenience" factor, but man...I will hit Ver Brugge, La Farine and Yasai Market any day...thank you Ver Brugge!

Excellent shop. Good selection and prices. Everything is high quality. You can park at Safeway across the street and do your standard shop there, then cross the street for Ver Brugge, Farine, and the produce market if so inclined.

Simply the best. Best products, best service, very clean. Be sure to beat the lines and order your holiday meat, chicken or fish in advance.

Last Saturday, Feb 1, I phone ordered and picked up 4 crabs for $157. The request was to have them cracked and cleaned and to save the top shells for presentation. We were blown away by the strong smell as we unwrapped the multiple bags inside the white outer wrapping. Going deeper, all four top shells were broken...big holes on the tops like they had been hammered. The guts inside the shells was discolored and disgusting. The same was true of the knuckles...nothing was cleaned or even edible except for the legs. They were not well cracked but with our personal effort they were at least edible. To pay $40 a crab and to receive them in this condition has totally turned us off to Ver Brugge. This used to be a special butcher...what happened???

Purchased a prime grade rib roast for Thanksgiving. The team here was incredibly helpful at answering all of my questions as well.

i've been going to Ver Brugge for over 20 years and mostly order baby back ribs for large parties. Their customer service is always great. I order them the day before the party, and they cut off the membrane off the back without even me asking. which makes it easier for me to put the dry rub on and then the sauce the next day. I had a party on May 11 and served ordered 9 racks and all my friends who have been to many of my rib parties said they were the best ever which I agreed, very long, thick and fresh. Thank you!

Helpful and friendly staff. Has a good time figuring out a combination for gefilte fish makings and they did grind the fish for me! Fabulous!
