Update: The owner took the initiative to find my contact information from Yelp reservation to reach out to me and investigate the tip changing situation. She was very kind to offer a refund on the tip difference and invite us back for some food. While I decline the food invitation, I appreciated her going above and beyond to correct what I experienced. Will be happy to visit again in the future! Original: This is the first time we have a server that changed the tip amount. We gave a 18% tip but our server changed it to 20%. While we enjoyed the food and the ambiance, this sort of dishonesty is unacceptable. It's a few dollars more, so I am too lazy to pursue any action against this, but I would warn anyone trying to dine here that you might get a server who will change your tip amount.

We spent Valentines dinner at Tides and was very excited, hearing positive reviews about the seafood restaurant opened by the same family who owns Forbes Mill Steakhouse. The restaurant is gorgeous and is the perfect modern addition to downtown Danville. I will say that our experience was hit or miss...there were high points and low points (tldr; skip the steak, come on a less busy day). Service was very friendly but also almost impossible to track down throughout our experience. Our entrees came out and we had no utensils...and by the time we got utensils, our food cooled down considerably. I could give Tides the benefit of the doubt and assume it's because of the Valentines crowd, but a restaurant of this caliber should have exceptional service. Food-wise, the calamari was the STAR of the meal. I have never had such light, melt in your mouth calamari dressed with the best sweet and tangy glaze. The scallop truffle risotto was also fantastic and had the best al dente bite. Unfortunately, the largest dish we ordered was a $82 12oz Ribeye Valentines special and it was a complete let down. The ribeye was thin and extremely tough. While the very middle of the steak was cooked to a perfect medium, the rest was a dense well-done. For a restaurant owned by the same as Forbes Mill, I expected a thick-cut, tender steak. That said, I would still be open to giving Tides another try and sticking to their menu staples.

This was so disappointing. I had such high hopes and was looking forward to celebrating my mom's birthday. I made the reservation a month in advance and requested a corner booth table. We typically don't like tables in the middle of the restaurant because there isn't much space. The people at the front desk definitely treated other customers differently based on appearance. They didn't take that into account. In fact, they sat us at the worst round table in the restaurant. There was no space between us and the tables, and we were in the pathway to the kitchen. So for an hour and half, we were hit or kicked by people constantly walking by (servers and customers). They didn't even acknowledge our request until I asked. We were also crammed in this tiny table, when other people got much bigger and spacious sized tables. I gave two stars because the crab cakes and Brussels sprouts were tasty and the staff who were delivering our food or clearing the tables were extremely nice and courteous. Too bad our server wasn't that hospitable. She just rushed us.The entrees- fish and chips were average. The fries were cold.-daily special Arctic Char....so fishy with no flavor. The couscous was supposed to have a citrusy flavor, but there was none and nothing was salted! Zero flavor in the fish and the sides. Looked flavorful, but it wasn't -Black Cod...we have never had a more pathetic or gross black cod. It was so tiny, thin, and mushy! It had the worst fishy taste and I don't know how they managed to have it so gooey and like mush. Must have been an old piece they were trying to pass off to a table they don't see as a more "desirable" table. It was so thin and some parts were just skin and no fish! There was no mention of my mom's birthday, yet we saw other tables being wished happy birthday and their servers were much more attentive. We always order 2-3 desserts at restaurants and we were looking forward to trying some. However, seeing where we were placed in the restaurant and constantly having people hit our bodies and chairs as they were walking by, seeing the quality of the entrees, and seeing how other tables were treated better, we just wanted to get out of there. Disappointing dinner and birthday experience, but luckily there are other restaurants in Danville that are much better, have good quality food, and treat their patrons respectfully.

Tides Restaurant here in Danville offers a cozy ambiance with an abundance of lush greenery that creates a warm, inviting atmosphere. The beautifully designed reception desk adds an extra touch of elegance to the space. The service is exceptional--attentive staff go out of their way to ensure customer satisfaction, which enhances the overall experience. However, while the presentation and atmosphere are top-notch, the food quality fell slightly short of expectations given the pricing. The mahi-mahi fish of the day, while perfectly cooked and juicy inside, was heavily over-spiced, which overpowered its natural flavors.Overall, Tides is a charming spot with excellent service, but a slight refinement in their dishes would make it truly worth the premium price.

Knocked 1 star off from 4 to 3 because they ran out of a few starters that we had hoped to order (e.g. calamari, Hokkaido scallops). Also, their service was a little off.The squid ink pasta was a surprise where the pasta was hollow. But the mussels had sand in then and weren't edible. The sea bass was nicely pan seared to it's perfection. The gnocchi and the deep fried Fava beans were tasty, but on the oily side. The scallop risotto was probably the best. Nicely seasoned and juicy pan fried scallops. :)

3.5 stars Saturday night dinner experience for a party of 5. Ambiance - nice decor with faux plants but the disappointing part was the specific table we sat on. The chairs were extremely low - very uncomfortable 2 hour dinner. I looked around to see if we could possibly change tables or chairs but it didn't look like our chairs would fit anywhere else in the restaurant. We sat directly behind the hostess desk near the black painted wall. Service - no complaints. We celebrated my step dad's 70th birthday here. The restaurant gave him a card with happy birthday written on the envelope but happy anniversary message inside. It was quite comical. Food -Appetizers: -Brussels sprouts not bad-clam chowder was considerably better than most restaurant-calamari was very good. It was the first time where we've seen calamari served with an arugula salad - different than traditional fried calamari. Entrees:-lobster tagliatini was decent-squid ink pasta came with lots of seafood but the tomato sauce tasted very underwhelming -Chilean sea bass was cooked perfectly but the it didn't go too well with the coconut celery root puree - not a fan-the beer battered cod was okay nothing special - the scallop risotto was cooked perfectly, truffle risotto was flavorful and comforting Desserts-lava cake - my son wanted to order this and it was to his liking DrinksI enjoyed my calypso old fashioned. Overall, it's a nice restaurant in the neighborhood and hopefully you'll have a higher percentage of finding something you like on their menu.

I would really give this 4.5 stars if I could! Service and ambience are excellent. Almost everything I ate/drank was delicious, but the entree wasn't as good as the appetizers, and for the high price of these entrees, I was hoping they would match up in taste. The hostess and servers were very friendly, kind, courteous, and attentive. Here's what I had:-Clam Chowder (5/5) Delicious! They serve with fresh Manila clams, and pour the chowder over it. A nice touch. -Calamari (5/5) The highlight of our meal. This is almost like a salad, and the citrus chili vinaigrette gives this a great flavor. Highly recommend! -Lobster Tagliatini (3.5/5) The lobster pieces were plentiful, and good quality. The pasta itself was decent, but the cream sauce was the miss here - it's bland and could use a punch up in flavor, which made the overall taste of this dish almost a miss for me. It's also $46 so I was hoping it would be even better than the calamari, that had lots of flavor. I wouldn't get this again and would like to try their fish next time. -Chocolate Lava Flow Cake with Ice Cream (4.5/5) shareable for two people if you're feeling full, but I could probably have eaten one on my own. Moist and tasty. -Guava lemonade (5/5) SO good, especially if you like your drinks sweet. Overall a great dinner, and I look forward to coming back to try more of their seafood!
