During a recent Northern California visit, my family and I discovered more in Marin like this railroad museum full of wonder. The story of the railroads in this area fill the walls and the main railroad model runs in the middle. The town miniatures are greatly detailed and tell an expansive story too. A kid of any age can enjoy visiting this museum.

Nice little Museum, not much to see or do in Tiburon... Can walk to town or the museum. We've seen it once in six years of living here.

The history is mind blowing! The staff are so kind, personable, and passionate! Our daughter saw a typewriter for the first time and was able to try it out by typing her name! It was such a wonderful experience for her. If you go please bring cash for donations to keep this place alive! I do wish they accepted Venmo/zelle.

It's a small community museum that relies on the generosity of the people visiting the place. It gives visitors a small scale look at Tiburon when it was a train depot and not a home of the wealthy. Tiburon is an influential place but there's a strong sense of community and the folks working at the museum are extraordinary.

Visited the Tiburon Railroad & Ferry Depot Museum by chance as I was checking out the Tiburon Classic Car Show on the same street on Paradise Drive.Admission is free, and the inside is pretty small (1 main room with 2 other closet sized rooms). It's cool to look at the train model and also learn a bit about local Tiburon history. Took me about 10 minutes or so to browse around.Worth it to make a quick stop if you're already in the area.

If you're in Tiburon, its definitely worth a 15-30 min visit to the Railroad and Ferry Museum right after lunch. You're likely to walk along the harbor and admire the awesome views. Eventually, you'll stumble into a large, old house. That's the museum, and its FREE.The museum focuses on Tiburon's history as a railroad town in the early 1900's. The main exhibit is this huge model of the town along with moving cargo and passenger trains. Sheldon Cooper would definitely approve. The model was incredibly detailed - every building and person was crafted to look so real. They even have models of stray alley cats, LOL.The rest of the museum is pretty small, though there are a few cool artifacts and a short film. The docents here are very friendly and knowledgable about Tiburon's history. Be sure to leave a donation before leaving.

Sweet little Museum, dedicated to the Tiburon history of train and ferry travels. Stopping by made me think of "Sheldon", from the Big Bang Theory. He'd be in heaven coming into this Museum! I have a couple of young family members that go crazy over trains, too. It just made me wish they all could be there with me. Upon entering, you see this very large remake of their railroad yard. So that's cool. Okay so I enjoyed walking about, seeing the history in pictures, posters, tracks and loads of memorabilia. It's nice to go to a museum and feel like you actually know and can recall what you saw & learned. That's how I felt today.I mean, have you been to Prado Museo in Madrid? Or the Louvre in Paris? You walk away from one of those - knowing you are lost, overwhelmed with information and realize one needs a month or two, to visit and mentally store the treasures of art in the museum! We had never been to Tiburon. We took a day (car) trip there, for some sightseeing! First visit was to the Tiburon Railroad and Ferry Museum. It's a beautiful location - right on the waterfront. There is a paved path alongside the Bay and Museum, with easy differently abled access. If you have extra time, plan on taking a walk, enjoy the scenery, smell the Bay from breezy sea air, sit and relax on 1, of a few, park benches..

The nicest volunteer explained a little bit of Tiburon history to us this fine afternoon. Wonderful to see how industrial Tiburon actually looked inside the historic Donohue building, which was erected late 1800's.The model of train depot Tiburon was striking, and given that I'm reading about historic 1850's SF and its historic fires via the story of volunteer firefighter Tom Sawyer in the book, Black Fire, it was truly amazing to witness a historic fire extinguisher inside the museum. Aweome!!! Love history, love museums, love friendly and informative peeps.

Great place to visit if interested in history of the area, also very kid friendly. Wish it was open for more days / hours. The depot contains a working model railway layout of Tiburon rail yard in 1909. You can look out the window and see how the very same land lies now. Also fascinating artifacts and dvds related to rail in the area and the NWP railroad. Worth lingering and chatting to the knowledgeable and friendly docents. TIP: If there are two docents there ask to see the resident's quarters upstairs, it is really interesting. The location on the waterfront in Tiburon is stunning - a beautiful park next door and expansive views of the bay.
